MTD 630: Awesome Short Scale

You are right about the tone. Mike Tobias’ wood options can radically alter tonal properties of his basses.

I’m not surprised… I love Mikes stuff, and he’s a super nice guy…maybe one day he or Daniel will be inspired to do something really cool and passive…I talked to him a while ago about it, and I doubt that’s a direction he wants to go in, but that was a long time ago…fingers crossed..

The headstock length won’t affect the tension at all. If the speaking length of the string at the given scale length was stretched further, it would pull the tuning higher. Whatever extra tension you get by that method is released as you have to detune it back to pitch.

On average, the answer is a resounding yes. We’re at the point where there are as many women as men buying electric guitars, and basses can’t be far behind. Why so many short scales? If you like the trend, thank your Mom or your sister - the demographics are a large force behind this trend.

That would be the Lynn Keller Signature 5 string. I understand the 4 string version is closer to 19mm. Scale is 32”. I’m giving some serious thought to one. They have jazz pickups and different EQ package.
