MTDs on Parade

I have had over a dozen MTD's. I had no need to play it. I have had similar wood combos. I just saved it as a collectors piece. I am a huge MTD fan and I was hoping to be able to sit on this bass for a very long time. Financial issues (college for my son) make it a little hard to sit on a bass that will not be used.

I haven't had a Maple necked MTD but my other basses have had them and I've owned other basses with Wenge/Wenge necks. I personally prefer the Wenge/Wenge combo as it is very punchy and growly and really brings out the low mids.

I had a 535 with maple neck/rosewood board (Jerry J still has it, I think) and I currently have another 535 with a wenge neck and board. Each wood combo has its advantages. The wenge/wenge one seems to cut better in a dense mix, but the notes have a slower attack--I think that's what ends up being described as "growl". The maple/rosewood has better focus and clarity--it's more "traditional" sounding. I heard a wenge/wenge neck with the Aguilar OBP-3 at NAMM and I thought that preamp brought out a little bit more focus in the tone, but I'm not ready to take out the guts of my bass to get that.

Geez; all this eye candy and all I have is a plane Jane :D

It's a maple neck with lined ebony board, 1 piece Northern ash body. Every sound/tone is there, rumble to crystal highs (unusual for fretless).

When I first saw it, [email protected] posted it n his site, and I thought "man, all this bass selling crap, and that is the ultimate right there! I could be done with this if I had that bass". 2 weeks later he posted an ad to sell it, and I just whipped out my credit card and got it immediately. I have done some financially stupid things with buying basses, but that was actually the smartes move I made yet. It really was everything I was looking for in a bass.
