Multi-scale 5-string bass

OK, let's get to the question many of us really have. Where do we apply to be adopted by you? I'm probably older than you, hope that isn't a deterrent....
I would approach it in a different way!
I would ask him if he ever tried a multi scale and ask his opinion because you were curious about them

IME switching from 4 to 5 is MUCH more involved than switching to multi scale. The multi scale took almost no getting used to , except in the upper register. I have a couple of Stingray 5's and 3 German Warwick 5's, but once I got a Dingwall 5 the others all stay home if I am gigging on a 5 string. I love the longer low B. It lets me use a thinner string and still have good tension. It seems to match the other strings better.
Lol, I'd adpot you all if I could... but the one I've already got spends all of my money!

Among the many great suggestions is the recurring theme to let him make his own choice. In hindsight, I think I that's the right decision after all. To be honest, I think what I'll do is just let him scroll through this thread with me and we'll follow all the links to see how he feels about each! Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in finding the "perfect" option that you lose sight of WHO needs to think it's perfect. Forest for the trees, as they say.

I looked into all this, but didn’t buy anything……. A big variable is the different possible scale lengths. B string can vary greatly, 32 to 37” scale length. I’ve heard you may want the full 37” to get the benefits, although it sounds like a stretch for the hand. I have certainly found the standard 5ers I’ve picked up in stores (34” straight scale) the B is invariably clunky and flabby, not functioning very well.
I took some notes:
Dingwall 37-34” except Super J or P 35-32”)
Ibanez SRMS805 35.5-34”, EHB1005MS, EHB1505MS 35-33” EHB1005SMS 32-30”. BTB 37-35”.
Kiesel custom multi scale, 35-33.5" but Vanquish 36-34”.
ESP 37-34”. Spector NS Dimension 37-34”.
