Multiple Brands in the same rig....

Yeha i'm probably nuts. Right now i have a Yorkville 1x15 that's been good to me, and the 4x10 blew. So i want more smaller speakers obviously, but being a small person carrying a 4x10 around is not good for me...so if i got some smaller cabs, like 1x12's or 2x12's or 2x10's, would i want to get all the same ones, or could i feasibly get a 2x12 by say, ampeg, and a 2x10 by SWR, and still stack it on top of the yorkville? How does using a bunch of cabs (more than two, anyway) work out...if you guys can give me some links even, that would be awesome...thanks

Most people will mix brands between heads and cabs (especially if, like me, you use cabs from builders who don't make heads and heads from builders who don't make cabs).

As far as mixing brands with multiple cabs in a rig goes, some people are really against this and insist that if they have multiple cabs that they all be from the same manufacturer. There are a lot of reasons for this (apparently) but I think that if it sounds good and stacks reasonably well that there's no reason not to do it unless you're the type of person to wear clothing from only one manufacturer or something. You know, like those fellows who have a hat/shirt/pants/shoes with a Nike logo or something.

Well put. I've mixed brands with great success. Just one example: for awhile I ran a pair of 2x10 cabs, Mesa/Boogie and Ampeg. Great combo: the Ampeg had punch, the EV-loaded Mesa was more hi-fi. They sounded better together than each did separately.

i've also had great success mixing cabs, and i actually prefer it, although by chance my current rig uses all mesa cabs. the only problem i ran into was the gross mismatching of sensitivity, in my case my acme and my ampeg sounded KILLER together, but since my amp wasn't stereo i was greatly limited on how to shape my sound using the different cabs. since then i've come to the conclusion that as long as i plan on using more than one cab i WILL have a stereo power amp.
