Multiple Fender Precisions in your collection?

This morning I added a 2021 American Ultra to the herd.
I need something with a PJ in a pinch.
It was on FB Marketplace at a great price.
Sidenote, it's amazing how some people don't take care of their basses.
I've never seen such gunk on a fingerboard, and corrosion on the top 5-7 frets.
Now I have to find a tortoise shell pickguard

Man, that's an awesome collection!

And you don't need to excuse yourself for having these basses. I reckon you bought them with honest earned bucks. So it's your call.
Now you just enjoy playing and admiring them!

I have two. A straight PBass with LaBella DTF and a P/J Bass with GHS Pressurewounds. String choice and the P/J pickup configuration are the motivating factors.

I only have two. A 1995 American Standard with LaBella flats on it that weighs 10 lbs+, and a 1968 model strung with TI flats that weighs nearly nothing. I experiment with strings on the 95, but only play TIs on the 68. The 95 has a thick slab ebony fretboard (long story) and a GZR pickup.

They both sound like p bass, and totally different from each other.

Honestly, two P basses, a 4 and a 5, the stock gen 1 VMods I don’t even remember how they sounded, it was a few years ago. My nearly instant reaction was just that they had to go, quickly. I was familiar with the SPB-1 and always had success with it, so I went there for the 4, and Nordstrand with the 5.

Some here have said that if you switch places of the separate pickups of the VMod, it works well - by that I mean put the treble one where the bass one is and vice versa. I believe that’s basically what the VMod II is, but I could be wrong.

I do have the capacity to be patient with new pickups, and try new strings, etc - it’s not often I have a nearly immediate “hell no” kind of response.

Why do so many here feel obligated to justify having more than one P?

Since you guys bought them with your own honest earned money (I assume ) there is no reason at all to be ashamed or feel guilty.
Wether you play all of the P basses you got or just one or a few, there is no harm done to anyone by you collecting these beautiful instruments.
So feel proud and happy about your choices an enjoy your basses!

You may have a different experience. I have a Pro Jazz bass and the stock VMod pickups actually sound pretty cool in it. Kind of gnarly, lots of harmonics when you dig in. Maybe I should have given the P VMod a better shot.

The SPB-1 will *not* disappoint, at least it has yet to disappoint me across I’d guess 3-5 different P basses.

1. Finally, I got my 2016 Am Pro yesterday, it is an amazing bass! The neck is comfy and fast. I like it more than the necks of 2012 Am std Pbass and AVRI 57 I had in the past. It is under 8.3 lbs. I replaced v-mod with SD SPB-1 - the tone became punchier and beefier in my view.

2. 2016 Am STD LTD Magnificent 7 Precision. It is a stunning bass. It has a Jazz Bass profile neck. The quality is top notch. The neck pickup is CS 60’, the bridge one is Jaco Vintage Jazz. Both pickups are stock. This bass is one of 500.

3. 2022 Sire P5 - the quality of craftsmanship I would say is much better than some MIA Pbasses. Nice neck, no dead spots, sounds great, good value, love it. I have upgraded stock tuners by installing lightweight Gotoh tuners.

I owned the Magnificent 7 PJ - pretty sure the stock split coil is a CS62, and the stock Jazz pickup is a CS60’s. Really great basses.

As for the neck pickup, you are right. As for the bridge one, I based on the official diagram of tech spec…
