Multiple Fender Precisions in your collection?

So, I'm looking for people who own multiple Fender Precision basses in their collection, because I would love to know why they need more than 1 :D

Could be related to strings (one with rounds, one with flats for instance), or type of wood, pickups, backup, new vs old, anything..
P.S. clones of precisions (like Sire P5) are also welcome to join in the discussion

I might need a 2nd precision myself as well, but it feels a bit unnecessary, so I need opinions of pro's (that's you) :rolleyes:

I think I currently own six five. They’re all MIA, and they all sound a little bit different and feel a little bit different.

- 2013 Limited Edition Hot Rodded American Vintage PJ: nitro black/rosewood, jazz neck, and fantastic pickups
- 2014 American Standard, Oly/Tort/rosewood, flats, and CS62 pickup
- 2016 American Pro (early release), black/black/maple with a SD SPB-1 pickup, sounds and looks badass
- 2017 American Pro P5, black/mirror/maple, with Nordstrand NP5F pickup, sounds and looks badass
- 2021 American Pro II P5, Dark Night/black/maple, stock VMod II, sounds and looks badass but very differently from the NP5F, and the neck is just incredible

I also own two Jazzes, a 2017 AmPro natural ash/black/maple and a 2025 Player II limited edition with a sparkle 3TS, black pickguard, and rosewood fretboard.

3 here :


One sunburst with slab rosewood fretboard and flats for disco, retro, rockabilly and dance music

One natural with maple neck and nickel rounds for rock, blues and soft rock

One natural with roasted maple neck and stainless steel rounds for heavy rock and make sure I don’t get lost in the mix with my loud band


The bare minimum for me would be the first two.

Not a pro by any means, but here's my Fender P collection, in the order I bought them:

1. 2016 MIM Special Edition Deluxe PJ (in Surf Pearl). I was kind of chasing my first "real" bass (which I regretted giving up), an early 2000's MIM in Midnight Wine, that replaced my first bass - as Squier Affinity P that was a bit of a dog. Really a nice bass - has the sound I'm looking for, it's a beautiful bass and has a really comfortable neck. I don't use the J pickup much, outside of as a thumb rest.
2. 2007 Am Deluxe P - this has the double jazz humbuckler, nice PreAmp onboard, 7/8-sized body and a great neck. This was the bass I was drooling over when I started playing (and got the above mentioned Squier Affinity). Couldn't not buy it when I saw it at Music Go Round. But it's not a "standard" Precision by any means.
3. 2003 MIM Standard P in Midnight Wine. As noted I've been missing this one ever since I gave it up the first time I had one. I saw it on Reverb one day and hit Buy Now. And I'm incredibly happy with it - it's the bass I grab to play most often.

At some point I'll switch one of the MIMs to flats (but I have to decide which flats first...),

I forgot all about the Eclipse finish! I hated it at first, but in seeing user close up pics, it’s effing gorgeous. Would love if you would post pics.

My two 2014 Fender American Precision Basses:

  • Fender (2014) American Deluxe Precision 34" Passive/Active P/J bolt-on used MIA
  • Fender Sandblasted Limited Edition American Special Precision (2014) Red Passive 34" bolt-on used MIA

Although both are officially named 'Precision' the American Deluxe Precision is a PJ and Active/Passive and the Sandblasted American Precision in Red is just gorgeous although gorgeous doesn't come through the amp in any audible frequency.

I own several:

‘83 Precision - stock other than the pick guard and pickup covers. It wears nickel rounds.

‘11 Precision Special - pickup changed for a hot Schaller PBX (it’s a DiMarzio copy from the 1980s) and pots changed to 1Meg. It’s decked out in late ‘70s-style regalia with a brass nut and Badass bridge. It wears nickel Rounds.

‘86 MIJ E-series Precision - Fralin pickup but otherwise a mostly stock P-bass. It wears Ernie Ball Series IV flats.

‘78 Precision fretless - rosewood board. Mostly stock, Ernie Ball flats.

They’re all P-basses but they’re all slightly different and I use them for different applications - or I just use the one I feel like playing.

I also have a MIJ ‘51 reissue but that’s sort of a different animal altogether. I’m also restoring a ‘75 Precision that a friend gave me (because it needs so much work) and, if I’m able to get it playable, I’m thinking of stringing it with tapes; something entirely new to me.

I have two Fenders and one Squier.
American Pro II
Japanese Aerodyne
Classic Vibe 50s.

All different countries, one has rosewood, the other two maple, body shapes are different with the Aerodyne being flatter, different pickup on the Classic Vibe and one with rounds, the other two flats.

I think I need another P
One is none
Two is one
I'll never be done....

I have 4 and I think that's it. For now 😄

2017 Fender Deluxe Special PJ, but width 1.5", Fender 9050L flats,

2022 Squier 40th anniversary vintage edition, nut width 1.685", LaBella Low Tension flats,

1983 Squier SQ, nut width 1.685, LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass flats,

1970ish Univox Professional, nut width 1.575, Thomastic Infield flats.

I have two Fender Precisions. There's enough difference in the two to justify owning them.

2019 MIM Fender Player Precision
Modern C Precision Neck
FCS '62 P Pup

2019 Am Performer Precision PJ
Modern C Precision Neck
No greasebucket tone circuit
CTS, Switchcraft, & Vitamin Q control components
Aguilar's hum cancelling PJ pup set

Let's take this even further outside of the Fender name while staying in the realm of Precision style bodies.
A non Fender, FSO 2025 Ferner Custom 68 Precision Body
Slim vintage C Precision neck profile
Delano hum canceling pickups
Can roll on just the neck pup and get a great single coil P tone

So 3 Precision bodies total, similar necks, 3 different pick up and control layouts, all 3 can do P bass tones, yet are totally different basses with two of them capable of doing more than just P bass tones.
