Multiscale Chambered 8-string Hybrid Singlecut

The sun rises on the final day that the BH-8 is in the shop - Ben is coming today to pick 'er up.

The stacked volume-tone pot arrived the evening before, but I discovered this morning that the threaded part of the shaft was not long enough to protrude through the thickness of the top. So - of course - the day Ben is due to arrive, I am routing more wood from inside the control cavity!!

All's well though. Finally, the man has the instrument in his hands.

Hey everybody -

Just wanted to give another shout out to Erik as well as everyone on this forum that has been checking in periodically. I've had the axe for a month now and I have to say we are still going strong. I ended up putting some 12's with a wound G on the guitar side, and it has really helped the tone. This guitar just sounds amazing. Played my first gig with her last weekend and I managed to get through 3 set's without dropping the ball. Give me a few years and I'll start to feel comfortable... Anyhow I have a few videos from the show that can be found here:




The video of the guitar is a bit dark/grainy thanks to bar lighting, but we recorded with a couple of condensors into an interface so the sound is all there.

Ben, you have really come along in just a month! It is becoming a natural extension of you.

It took me a long minute to realize you guys were a trio with NO bass player. Yes folks, that's Ben holding down the bass AND comping over top. Nice!

I agree you're an amazing player!!! I mean it's not perfectly perfect but better than a lot who would need to be TWO to perform like you alone.
I'm impressed!! Before the 8string, were you playing mainly the bass (my guess) or the guitar in this trio? (or maybe keyboard??)

The intro to the last one makes my hear go crosseyed (if that means anything).

One question, I'm currently using tru oil on a neck and have been having trouble with faint sanding marks....... What grit do you sand the wood up to, before applying?
I'm currently up to 600, but When i look real close, I can still see tiny marks......

Tru Oil brings out every sanding imperfection - it happens to me, somewhere, every time I use Tru Oil, usually the first coat will bring it out, that's the time to inspect it really close and then go back and resand.

I sand to 600 as well. Those sanding marks are just scratches that didn't quite get removed from the finer grit(s). Once you know where they are, you should be able to pick them out without reapplying the TO.

I was actually playing a baritone tele. I ran the guitar pickups into a stereo jack and split it between two amps. Boy what a difference the 8 string has made. Before my range was so limited, and the instrument just sounded really muddy. It was a bit easier to play, but the bad far outweighed the good on the baritone. Thanks for the kind comments folks - Erik certainly out-did himself this time.
