For all you guys that ask which bass is best for slapping, this is the one, and I don't even slap that much. The sound is tight and focused from top to bottom. Dang! It's easily as good sounding as my Sadowskys and Laklands, possibly even better. Tonight I played it through my WW Ultra into a Hartke aluminum-coned cab with one 15 and one 5. Tight, tight, tight.

As far as fit and finish are concerned, it's very interesting. It's actually not as precisely cut and finished as many of the CNC parts basses (like Lakland and Sadowsky), but it gives you the sense of the hand craftsmanship that went into building it. More "organic," kind of. The wood in the top is just spectacular, and at least a half-inch thick.

Now, my wife thinks it's not as good-looking as the Tuxedo Bass, and she attributes my attraction to the puke-top (my working name for the MTD) to my geology background. Anyway, this is a superb bass, and I have no buyer's remorse.

Nice bass. Interesting comments on the fit and finish. I feel the same way, and actually dig it. My MTD and Celinder's feel very 'hand made', and each one I play is just a little different in feel, and sometimes quite different sounding, whereas the Sadowsky's and Lakland USA's are 'perfectly identical' to each other for the most part. Both approaches are cool in their own way IMO.

Both of those kill, especially that redwood one. I'm proud to be a member of the MTDclub. I just got my WT-800B today, and played the MTD through it into a D-210XLT on top of a D-115XL (shut up), and my, my ...does it dominate, or what?

You know, you guys, we may have enough TBers around San Diego to have our own little GTG.

Yep, these things are the real deal. I'm playing mine through my WW Ultra into two WBS 2X12 cabs, and it's just sick...

Good call on having a GTG. Count me in!

Dude, I'm sorry to say it, and I know it's terribly un-PC, but if that's you in the picture, you're not invited. I am SO sorry.

Anyway, I'll be at my sister's house in Santee for ebleskivers tomorrow. Yum.

Munji, congrats on the MTD, killin'!
that redwood one is amazing as well, for years i was hard core MTD-
depending on how things go, i would love to own a piece of Mike Tobias' work again some day, he introduced me to the world of hi end basses back in '84 via a wonderful Tobias sig 5
in my eyes, he is a living legend.

Thanks, Adrian. You can really feel the craftsmanship in his work every time you pick up the bass. I practiced with it for a couple hours last night, and it plays like a dream.

Yeah, a San Diego area get-together would be cool. It would make me finish up my fretless 5 faster! I certainly would not mind bringing my gear out.

This is the crazy time of year for me - County budget time but it should slow down in a week or so and then pick up in June.

Munji, if you ever meet Mike ( like at NAMM or somewhere ) pay attention to his hands. The hands that built a thousand (or more ) masterpieces. That's the real deal there, bro. Lots of elbow grease goes into everything he puts out- what you have there is Mike T 100% - last i heard, he had no crew, no nothing- sometimes he has a helper, one. But you got there is history.
Someone said they thought their MTD felt a little rough, not as gleamy and shiny as other basses.. i
well, i think that Mike craftsmanship, to me they are amazing works of art and you know there's a unique gift to the person who built the bass.
i am starting to get MTD gas.
