Munji's Universal Bass Thread

I usually hate Buckeye Burls tops, but that one looks cool. Not too much vomit in it like they usually are.
Nice Fender. I just put Sun Beams on my new-to-me Fender Jazz Deluxe V (1997). I also think the strings are kind of boingy. I'm not used to such flexible strings, even though the guages aren't that light. What guage are you using?
Right now I've got DR extry longs on it. I don't like 'em. I'm going to call Dude and get some TI PowerBass, which are kind of light and floppy (the B is a .119), but boy they sound great on my Roscoe Beck V.Sean Baumann said:

I know it sounds wild, but those PowerBass Strings really sound bitchen, especially the B string. What's weird is, I've got TI Jazz Flats on my Pedulla T-Bolt fretless, and the B string on those is a .136. Like I said, these may be my favorite strings. They just dominate on my RBV. They're definitely not for those with a phobia for the "floppy B." They are indeed a bit slinky.Sean Baumann said:

OK, it's mine. And it exists, too, although I won't have it 'til about Thursday. BB top, ash body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, no dots, 3-band EQ, 3-position mid switch.

Cripe! This is one amazing bass. I played it at rehearsal tonight, and it sounds incredible. For all you guys that ask which bass is best for slapping, this is the one, and I don't even slap that much. The sound is tight and focused from top to bottom. Dang! It's easily as good sounding as my Sadowskys and Laklands, possibly even better. Tonight I played it through my WW Ultra into a Hartke aluminum-coned cab with one 15 and one 5. Tight, tight, tight.
As far as fit and finish are concerned, it's very interesting. It's actually not as precisely cut and finished as many of the CNC parts basses (like Lakland and Sadowsky), but it gives you the sense of the hand craftsmanship that went into building it. More "organic," kind of. The wood in the top is just spectacular, and at least a half-inch thick.
Now, my wife thinks it's not as good-looking as the Tuxedo Bass, and she attributes my attraction to the puke-top (my working name for the MTD) to my geology background. Anyway, this is a superb bass, and I have no buyer's remorse.
