I've written this before, but IMO, any chart - RB old, RB new, composer's - is great for sitting down and listening to a particular performance and comparing the difference because it gives you, potentially, a headstart on transcribing the performance. And, if you're not doing that, I don't know how you can memorize the tune. Regardless, I find it easier to hear "uh, that's not right" than transcribing from scratch.
And, I hate to be a purist, but much of the time, the RB's miss the artistry of the recording, whether that's voicings, or incorrect bass lines.
The RB 5 version of Herbie's Dolphin Dance is a good example. I cringe every time a BL insists on those changes; not so much because they're wrong - they are - but because they're significantly inferior to what Herbie played.
