"Plug-In Baby"... now THERE'S a request we never see here. Everyone's always asking for the Absolution-era stuff. :D

I need to listen to that song again to figure out what's used on it. It's been a long time since I've listened to Origin of Symmetry. IIRC, it's just some kind of distortion, isn't it? Whatever it is, it's on his pedalboard from that era.

I'll check in later tonight when I get back to my computer.

Nein, definitely some sort of synth, on the main part anyway. My gut says it was the Deep Impact. You can especially hear the filter sweep all the way down at the very end of the song, as his last note sustains (from 3:20 to the end)



You could do a reasonable facsimile of that sound with the Boss/Behringer Bass Synth pedals, and then just use what sounds like a muff-ish fuzz (maybe the BBM) on the verses

I'd say something like an octaver and some type of distortion/fuzz. Look at FuryMuso's gear vid on youtube, he explains the effect sound for that song and how he gets it in the vid. For the most part, basically you need an octaver pedal set to one octave down, and some type of Fuzz or Distortion. Look on Musewiki for a better description on what he uses.

I could see there being fuzz and octave on it, but it definitely has some sort of sweeping filter too. That's what made me think Deep Impact

That's possible too, of course, but he's also using the FM4 for the filter sweep/wah which he uses during the break.

Ah. The discussions about this man's rig are endless, and for good reason. :smug:

Also, FuryMuso does a great job with his cover approximations, but Chief is correct. The sweep is definitely coming from the DI; there's just no other pedal or model that sounds like it.
