Music at a stoplight

When I was younger (even into my mid 20's) I always had a loud stereo in my car. I love music and music is essential when I'm in the car. I can't not have it playing. And I especially love it loud. The louder the better. And I love getting in my car on a nice spring day and putting the glass down and opening the sun roof and blaring my favorite music. But more and more I find that when I'm approaching a stop light, I turn it down. Not because I'm ashamed and not because I think I might look foolish but rather, because I don't want to annoy anyone else. I hate sitting at a stop light and being force fed someone elses music. So in the past few years I've started turning it down at the stop light. But once the light changes I blast it again. I guess I'm learning to be considerate. Anyone else experiencing this?

i've always done this.

i have a pretty good system in my car, all Alpine... head, speakers, amp and sub..
the system kicks when i want it to, but i've always found it annoying when other think i care about what they're listening to. so i know that people don't care what i'm listening to, so i turn it down.

Ive found that when I'm driving fast (45mph+) I have the music loud..but whenever I stop at a stoplight or enter a neighborhood or shopping center, I always turn it down...

However...

If I am at a stop light and someone next to me is playing something loud and annoying as hell...I blast some Beatles...case in point...stopped at a stop light during high school...girl next to me from my hs class...blasting jessica simpson...gives me a dirty look during a track change for listening to the beatles...so I process to pump up the volume...

Was I being an a$$ sure...but I would like to think some of the other people around me appreciated my choice over hers

I do that a lot too. I find that it's rap that annoys me more than anything. When I hear rap blasting at a stop light I tend to grab a Slayer disc. I have a nice system but it isn't ridiculously high powered. But it does send a message.

oh yes. absolutely.

my system is more high powered and cleaner than most systems around here. so if someone pulls up blasting 50 cent. i give them a nice dose of slipknot or devildriver.

Yes, most of us who become mature enough to consider others will experience this kind of change. Congratulations, and thank you for your consideration of others! :D:D

Maybe, but most likely you just added to their annoyance. More noise does not equal better noise.

I like to blast my music. Right now I do not have a car, so no nice system. When I did have a car I competed in SPL competitions, never won, but always finished top 5. Costs way too much to win. I loved blasting people that played crappy music. One time in high school we were at my friend's place for a outdoor party and this guy showed up blasting some crappy rap. My friend just said "shut him up", so I backed my car up to his, popped in my competition disc and shook his car. Good times, but I am way more concerned with sound quality now, that is what I will be going for with my next car.

Nicccccccccccce.

Use something that'll really mess their head up as they try to make sense of it, like Spiral Architect or Scale The Summit. Heh heh. "AGH! Where's the down beat???"
