music man geeks, plz help :-)

I own an all original music man cutlass (1979), sadly, it seems the G string is getting quieter and quieter... Would that mean the pick up is dying??? If yes... what company is making cool ones that would fit a "stingray"?

nope it is a MM thing. it was a contrubuting factor to me ditching mine..i tried everything to make it better to no avail. good luck

Nordstrand, EMG, Seymour Duncan, etc... all make pickups that should be drop-in replacements.

However, given the year it was manufactured, you'd probably be better off having it re-wound to retain it's all-original(ness). This guy offers a re-winding service that will be the same (or cheaper) than a new pickup.

Getting the pickup re-wound or re-magnetized may be your best bet for preserving the original tone.

Aside from that, I've had good experiences with Nordstand and Delano pickups.

Just for fun ask about pole piece alignment as well. They will heat the tar to a higher temp for you. Nice touch during the winter.
