Thanks guys for your help. Now Im just trying to find the best place to buy the Duncan Ceramic Basslines.
BestBassGear has the alnico but I dont see the Ceramic pups listed.
GuitarCenter on their site has them with the whole tone circuit for $200. I dont need all that do I?
These pups can be used with my Carvin stock wiring right?
So where can I buy just the pups at the best price?

All the snap of maple with an ebony like foundation, and still that MM type growl. I love it.

Picked up the pickup cover from a friend who had an older cover sitting around...The Nordstrand needed a smidge of routing for the SBMM body but it was negligible.

So far I'm pretty stoked.

I have not checked but I'm not sure if Seymour Duncan makes a 2 band in the "MM realm" so to speak.

Nordstrand is doing one now.

They do make a 2-band preamp, STC-2. It also has the slap switch. They used to have the STC-2M version which had a different bass control frequency. I don't see that listed anymore. I installed a bunch of those for a certain customer I had in the past.

As with most of these aftermarket preamps, they are not based on the real Stingray preamp, but probably have similar crossover points on their tone controls.

The real Stingray preamp is a rather unusual circuit and uses an unusual op amp. They have a particular tone. I tried some of mine with my pickups, and even though my pickups don't sound like MM pickups, the preamp added some of that bite.

Gotcha...I call the MM pre the icing on the cake for the classic tone...but sometimes I don't want any frosting..:D:hiding::D

The SD pre sounds a little different but yet still has the vibe...The East has more of that traditional honk (I mean that in a good way).

I skimmed through and didn't notice where this might have come up so far. Apologies if it has...

A buddy is working on a scratch build for me and I was wondering: Is there a standard measurement (like from the bridge) for placing a MM style pup in the "sweet spot" as it where? It will be a 5 string if that matters for any reason...

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. Right now and for the past 6 years I own a SUB Sterling active bass. For recording I used a rental Mesa M-pulse 600 recently and the results were pretty good to be honest... However I think it's time to either sell my bass and buy a StingRay (no budget for this right now) or improve my current one placing a new pickup. Has anyone done any pickup replacing in a SUB Sterling? I was thinking about the SMB-4D pickup but I'm not sure because of the poplar wood body... (the real deal Sterling has ash body). What do you guys think?
