You can get a small amount of info by e-mailing the serial number to Ernie Ball Music Man. They will give you the D.O.B and the model, not much more.

What else do you really want to know?

They will give you all the info they hold if you ask. This might include colour, neck type, pick up configuration, body wood, pickguard, date of birth and where originally shipped to. You could also post your serial number on the EBMM forum thread and they will reply with the information.

Look up muscimanbass.org. Lots of good stuff there, too. You can determine the age and sometimes, there's a title bit of info alongside the number.

I wanted to get a date on my recently acquired stingray and found out about the forum option or emailing. Why don't they just post the info in a list like Fender? Is there a reason they make you go look for it?

I suspect no sensible company would want to give out information which would enable competitors to obtain sensitive commercial information - does Fender really list their entire production with full details of the spec for each instrument?

I'm not asking for that. I'm asking for the date my bass was made.

In which case, simply email their customer services the serial number and they'll tell you - or post it on the thread on the forum - two methods which will get you the info you're seeking in a day or two.

The list on Musicman.org isn't a complete listing but will give a good idea of approximate dates for pre EB instruments (although the serial numbers don't necessarily run in sequence). For instance I have an EB bass from 2007 with a serial number in the 2004 series - checked with EBMM and correct (I did buy it new as well!)

I found out that my SR5 dates from 12/14/99 and that it has ceramic magnet pickups.
