Music Man Stingray 5 H or HH ?

I´ll buy another bass and now I´m looking for a EBMM Stingray 5 H or HH . I´ve played and record something on H ( Was mine and traded on a Ex-factor 1986) . But now I´m confused wich one is best for me .

I play hard rock and metal songs .

But if I had to go with one, think would go with the HH. Get a little more variety in town.

Best would be if you can try both out and then decide

I prefer and voted for the single H. More isn't always better. I found the 3-way switch on the H to have more usable tones than the 5-way switch on the HH. Another cool option would be a HS but I haven't played one.

Yeah, unfortunately it's personal preference on your part.

I've owned both but I prefer the single H SR5's. I'd be happy with either one though. I found that I was using the bridge position most of the time.

Couldn't you (in theory) rewire the HH switch to have all the H choices plus two more?

I'm sure someone could figure out how to do that. The H does have a phantom coil so it could be tricky trying to replicate single coil mode without noise.

I have a 4 HH and play metal, both pups (middle position), I never solo either pup. So I voted and suggest the HH.

Yup. My personal choice would be HH, with a 3 way switch for neck-both-bridge and then push pulls for each pickup, series-parallel. You could put 3 way switches for each pickup too, but that wouldn't fit the existing pickguard.

This is the tricky thing for me with Stingrays. I've owned both HH and H models, and I prefer the 3 way switch on the H, but I never moved away from the middle position on my HH. With that said, I like the H model better, but worry about not having that smooth balance that the neck pickup provides. Gotta get both!

I recently bought a StingRay Special 4HH, the new redesigned bass with the roasted maple neck. It's awesome. They also make a 5 string.

But in doing so, I first ordered a 4H, and it just didn't have enough depth for some of the rock I play. The new EBMM Neo neck pickup, and i assume the older one as well, is a monster for low end. I think it sounds massive. And it also has the single MM pickup for that classic sound. My vote is HH!

Both are great instruments!
I have had one 5H and a 5HH in the past. Since I already had a 4HH, I decided to unload the 5HH; very similar to the 4HH except with one lower string and since the 4HH was my primary stick, I let the 5HH go.
The 5H is awesome, yet it IMO sits better with a more classic vibe; straight rock/classic rock and of course slap/funk. Both are fantastic basses!
HH will give you more tonal capabilities; from Addagio for strings to Cannibal Corpse, from Elvis to Dragonball Z and back.
Best to try both out if you can; it's your baby.
Note: On EBMM 5 string Srs, the G string sits close to the edge of the reveal, sloppy playing/technique can/could cause it to slip. With a little time, like 10 minutes, you will conquer the slipping G. The basses still ROCK though.

I have the Special 4HH. If you just want the Stingray tone and nothing else then go with the single H. After getting the Special HH, I was able to sell off all my basses. It does everything I need from a bass. It's like a Fender, Gibson and Stingray all in one.

Just remember the Stingray 4H debuted in 1976. The first HH model didn't come out until 2005. So how many metal bands used a Stingray between 1976 and 2005?

Either will be more than serviceable. It really comes down to your personal taste.
