Music Man StingRay Club | PART FIVE

So, I've never owned a Stingray before, but I've always thought that they were cool. I went into GC yesterday to buy a truss rod wrench (which they didn't have,) and I was disappointed by the fact that they only had a total of 2 used basses in stock. Well, I left the store with one of them:

It's an '01, unlined 5, with the Piezo option. Looking at TB's classifieds, I think I overpaid a bit ($1500,) but it played so nice and looked so cool I couldn't resist. I have 45 days to return it... I might not!

Opinions welcome!
That's with the ceramic pickup too, great for fretless midrange punch. The piezo
addition will be gravy for acoustic upright tone

Congrats! Dont sweat the extra coin unless its keeping you from making a car payment this month. Long after that car is rusted & junked this bass will still be making great music and the little bit more money will be water under the bridge.

EBMM I'm hoping will come to their senses & bring these back to market. I'd love to have one of these with the Classic Bridge (adjustable mute pads)

Their dropping the fretless option is foolish IMHO. There are other builders out there who will build & sell it if Ernie wont.

And you don't need a truss rod wrench for that one.

How do you like the piezo on there. I have a Bongo with piezo and it's not very impressive, IMO.

I think Ibanez might have done the best job of all with the piezo on their Portamento fretless.

Cere, you are right about the truss rod on this bass! The humidity here in NE was wreaking havoc on my P-Bass. Ended up getting one at the hardware store for $.80... plus this grand-and-a-half bass!

I like the piezo so far. I've had basses in the past where the piezo was so trebly that finger noise seemed to be half of what you'd hear, but that's not as pronounced on this instrument, so it's a much more usable tone. I can't wait to get some TI flats on this thing - that will make the thump just right for me, I think.

I agree that the portamento has a nice tone, but I'm not a fan of the way they do the lines on those - as if it were a de-fretted bass. Lines like that throw me off, as I'm used to the all-dot scenario that this 'Ray has (on the note at 3/5/7/9/12 etc.)

Unless you find something wrong with it, would not return it. I certainly would have left the store with that as well. Very hard to find bass in that configuration. Do not think you overpaid at all.

I'll try this again... Assuming this is the right club, I think I'll get in. Just arrive today and loving it! It's one of the best necks I've ever played and she is very responsive. Did I say I'm loving this Old Smoothie? She's an NOS 2018 BFR

Hi, I dint own a expensive real stingray bass, but I have cheap sub ray 4 mint green/maple board.

Since I install an Alnico V mm pup on it and happy with the tone, but I believe the white pickup cover could make the bass has cooler look.

I been survey lot wedsite in few days but can't find any mm pickup replacement cover in white.

I been chat with a china music part supplier yesterday, he try asking factory if possible make the replacement mm pickups cover in "white".

If possible, I will link his online store here.
