OK, it's on the truck for delivery- my first ever Music Man. I'm starting off with a bang. This is a 20th Anniversary SR5 single H.

I've never connected with their 4 bangers but now that I'm exploring 5'ers these makes a lot of sense on paper. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Why they say that exactly I do not know.:hmm:

Anyway, help me pass the time 'till the truck gets here and I get pudding all over the place.:bassist:

Nice way to get your feet wet! The 20th Anniversary Stingray 5 is, hands down, THE best SR5 ever built. Besides the snappy good looks, it's got the mahogany tone block - about which I was skeptical, which in retrospect was goofy. I believe this was also the bass that brought back the alnico magnets to the SR5, although I really have no preference for those over the ceramic.

It's just that shorthand version of the original idiom which was "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". Good luck getting through the delivery wait. If I was in your situation I'd be hyped as **** right now, haha

I had a 4 string Ray years back that was a great bass but I didn't connect with the tone at the time. I just got a plain black/maple '93 SR5 two weeks ago and it has opened my eyes to MM again. I love the tone and the feel of the bass. Hopefully you will enjoy yours even more. Those 20th SR5s are real nice looking. :bassist:

EBMM basses are incredibly well made, and that anniversary model SR5 is gorgeous -- although I haven't been able to actually play one. I've owned quite a few EBMM basses, but my new Big Al SSS is the finest EBMM bass I've ever played -- it can sound like almost anything!

OK, it's been a busy weekend but here's a synopsis of of my initial 20th Anniversary Music Man experience...:hyper:


Wow, this box is heavy!
Wow, what a beautiful case!
This thing looks like new! (thanks joebone):)
No problem with the narrower spacing.
Nice even resonant voice unplugged, strong D and G and the upper register sings.
I plug it in and immediately play the 'I Go Swimming ' riff. Hello Tony!:D
The preamp is very useable even at extreme settings. Rare.
I will need to lighten up on this one, very responsive.

Now on to round 2- gotta crank things a bit and explore. is the switch on here front coil - both - rear coil?

Congrats my friend!

I had two EBMM Stingray 5s a year or so ago and I foolishly sold them to see if the grass was greener. After a year of buying and selling it indeed was not. I now have a beautiful sunburst/rosewood Stingray 5 and it is a dream. I would love to have a 20th anniversary one, and one day, I will!
