Double Bass Music notation software rec's plz

Hi,

I'm interested in getting some kind of software to make my own sheet music. I'd like to be able to write a piece and then email it to my guitarist friend. Any suggestions on a user friendly program?

I'm not a series composer, so I don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles associated with sheet music. Maybe if there is a cheap free app?

Thanks

You're not going to find to many quality programs free but for a couple of years now I have been using printmusic whih is under $100 and is very user friendly... I don't know about emailing files to a non finale computer though... Maybe print and scan?

Finale Notepad is their cheapest version at $9.95 for a download. The Finale Reader is free.

I'm a longtime professional user of the full version of Finale. I recommend it highly. If you one day decide to get more serious about composition, orchestration, or copying, you'll be glad you started with Notepad, to make the upgrade easier.

You can save files in PDF format. No need to kill a tree.

I'm surprised they charge anything for Notepad, that used to be their free demo program. Unless they've seriously upgraded the program, I'd say it's a huge waste of $10. PrintMusic would be the way to go.

Finale really is great... They update constantly. I jus chimed in again because I remembered print music has a 30 day free trial. That could definately get you started.

On of the good things about Finale is the simple upgrade process, with your initial investment discounted from the price of the upgrade. I would recommend starting with Notepad, see if you like the layout, etc, then go for PrintMusic. If you're sending files, you can always include a link to the free Reader -- PDF is fine, but doesn't give you the MIDI playback options.

I'm a sibelius user myself, and I actually find it a little annoying at times. I'm not overly familiar with Finale but a lot of my friends and colleagues use it and they don't have the same issues with it, that I have with Sibelius. Again, I have to state that i'm not very familiar with finale so i'm not saying it's better, just that it is more efficient than sibelius in certain respects.

Check out Noteflight

Noteflight - Online Music Notation Software

I'm paying for my solution, but I've got friends who are very happy with this free solution. I don't know how it is to use, but their charts look great.

Hi,

Just tried Noteflight out.

Free registration. Intuitive input method. Allows Chord symbols.

Here's a very short test score I created in my first 5 minutes:

If you haven't already got some scoring software and want something free, give this a try.

NB. You have to be on line to use it.
