Music Stands on Stage

I love my samsung note. It clips to my my stand and I can use it as a music stand without having a stand or a HUGE ipad in front of me

Thank you to all of today's posters so far. I was afraid that, what with the hurricane hitting the NE and the upcoming Presidential Election, the more important things like debate over stands on stage would fade from our collective radars. It is good to see we are still focused.
And never for singers!!!! Learn the lyrics.

Nice post - I saw them about a month and a half after this show in Costa Mesa, down in Dana Point, and they covered this song again. I can't remember if he had the lyrics or not, killer set though.

What's worse?:
1) A singer who doesn't use a music stand, but has a problem remembering lyrics causing noticeable stumbles in songs.
2) A singer who uses a music stand and gets the lyrics right.

This is not a political statement but it would be so refreshing to hear candidates, or any public speaker, give a speech without teleprompters. They are, after all, just fancy music stands. Might be interesting to hear one of them actually speak from the mind instead of the script.

I do not like music stands on stage. I believe you should learn the music to the point where you don't need to have charts on stage, unless you are playing in an orchestra.
In my view, equally bad and inexcusable for that setting (or a wedding/corporate band for that matter). You can't exclude the option of replacing the singer from this discussion.
I'm the original poster. I'm in two gigging original bands. The whole reference to this post was to me bringing a stand to play with this party/cover band I also play gigs with and tons of material. I'd rather spend time crafting & learning the original stuff and just use charts to help remember "Chain Gang" and stuff like that.
I also sing in a Choir, no stands but plenty of music
"Should I replace the singer?" is not what this thread is about. Yes, we know that this is a serious issue with the guy.
I'll accept that both are equally bad.
Perosnally, I'd rather him get through the song without blowing the lyrics even if it means having a big-@$$ music stand in front of him.
Can't stand watching a band so called performing while their faces are buried behind big black music stands.
Sometimes I like to go into a club during the day when no one is looking and put music stands on the stage. No musicians or music mind you... just the stands. And I don't put on where the drummer would set up, cause... whats the point.

I've been in bands where the vocalists have used stand but never the musicians. I'm not a fan of them.
