Musical Project

Back in Nov/Dec 2022 I answered a facebook post looking for a bass player and a drummer for a project, both of us needed to be military veterans. I found out the project is a play in the form of a rock concert, the story about 3 soldiers, one day in Iraq and 1 day 10 years later. It's all original music. I auditioned in Jan 2023 and was picked. I kind of hope there were more than me that auditioned, but I don't care at this point because they are happy with what I'm doing and I'm having a blast.

We've been practicing since March and moved over to the theater a couple of weeks ago. The first full run (pre-preview show) is Wed, Jun 21, 10 shows after that and I am stoked. The theater crew is doing a full production...slideshow, choreographed lights, interaction with the actors, bass solo...man...this is just gonna be a killer show. I'm new in the music scene and am just taking in all these first time experiences.

Anyway, the play is called Sound of the Guns. I'll be sure to post an update after the Wed show or at least after the opening weekend.

The "invitational preview" was last night. I gotta say, it felt f'ing great! The actors really turned it on and so did we (the band). This is gonna be a great run of shows!

As a veteran of a crap-ton of musical theater and son of a pair of musical theater parents, I'm also reminded of why you don't say "Break a leg" to dancers.
They prefer "merde" which frankly seems more appropriate for most theater roles.

Ok, so the invitational dress rehearsal was Wed. Preview shows were Thurs and Fri. Sat was the official opening night of Sound of the Guns....and it went wonderfully. The actors really turned things beginning Wed and have been improving each night. For us in the band, I wouldn't say we turned things on, we've been practicing since Mar, rehearsing at the theater for 3 weeks. The band is absolutely on our game. I found my happy place Fri night. It dawned on me, we weren't rehearsing anymore. We were on the stage, under the lights, the audience was there.....and I just soaked it all in. We have 7 more shows, ending on Fri, Jul 14.
