Musicians Friend

Go figure. Musicians Friend sent me a 20% coupon off one item last month. It expired but I tried it anyway today on a Behringer XR18 digital mixer. Didn't work, but popped up a windows suggesting I should chat with one of their Gearheads. So I did. Got turned down flat. No reduction possible at all.

Then I emailed [email protected] and got almost the same response verbatim. No discount beyond the web price.

So I called their 800 number. Guy said the coupon wasn't expired, just not working properly on their website. 20% off, no problem.

Persistence pays. Sometimes.

I'm glad that with persistence you were able to get the discount. It seems their marketing tactics and policies have changed considerably. They have become very firm about their level of discounts or lack thereof. Purchases are followed up with surveys by phone now to verify satisfaction and value to show the new model is better for the bottom line. As much as I hate it as the consumer I think after a season of slower sales it will pick back up when everyone realizes they won't give in. In the end it is better for their business but we shouldn't go out without a fight. :bassist:

If you're like me, you don't like paying full price for things when you KNOW you can get (or have gotten) a discount. So I've been looking around to see if i can find a deal.

Well I noticed that proaudiostar.com has a button on their product pages for requesting a deal. I put in the price I wanted to pay + my email address. I was emailed back within 30 min saying they'd sell the item for that price. My order has shipped. Now I'm waiting to see that it arrives as expected.

Sooooooo there are deals to be had and Musician's Friend has lost my business.

I'm going to assume that retailers do NOT want those types of specifics openly discussed. So I'm going to refrain.

That being said, it was a VERY popular brand of bass for a percentage off on par or BETTER than MF's holiday specials. I could have requested a lower price, but that was the price I felt would more than likely be accepted.
