Great thread. Some of these I knew but had forgotten over the years, so thanks for the reminders. Pretty interesting stuff.

Are we at the point where people don't know that?!
I guess it's me...that is pretty close to McCartney being in The Beatles pre-Wings.

Add Larry Ramos (of The Association) as a member of the NCMs.That would be The First Edition (later known as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition)
However, he was also a one time member of The New Christy Minstrels
Kim Carnes and Karen Black were also members of The New Christy Minstrels
Michael McDonald was in Steely Dan.
Are you sure? I know he sang backing vocals on recordings but I'm not sure he ever toured with the band.
I dunno...wasn't it around Katy Lied when McDonald showed up with Steely Dan? In my mind, they were not a "band" at that point...basically Fagen/Becker with hired guns.He joined after they were up and running, was a recording and touring member, and wrote/sang lead on a couple of their hits.
Vince Gill was a member of Pure Prairie League before he went solo multi-platinum country. Phenomenal guitarist, oh yeah, pretty good singer as well.
That would be The First Edition (later known as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition)...
There's a story that goes with that...was Iommi hired to "perform"(fake it) for that Rock 'n' Roll Circus thing? You know, somebody quit, somebody hired as the replacement could not make it, etc.Tony Iommi was in Jethro Tull for about 2 weeks. He appears with them on the Rolling Stones Rock 'n Roll Circus.
IIRC, Page was hired to play bass (initially). It slips my mind too that Jimmy Page was in The Yardbirds.
That was the 1st one that came to mind when I saw this thread.Denny Laine of Paul McCartney's Wings was in the early version of the Moody Blues. "Go Now" was his hit with them.
Robin Trower was in Procul Harum
Keith Richards was with The Stones before he was in the Xpensive Winos.
Jon Bonjiovi (aka Jon Bon Jovi) briefly played guitar for the band Scandal in 1983. He even appears in this video with them.
