no same color, I'm sure, its just the paint does a flip-flop depending on how the light catches it.
That's the magic of tangerine pearl. Being a pearlescent finish it does to a flip-flop from yellowish orange to reddish orange depending on how much light hits it. It's easily my favorite Music Man color.
What I like about the big Al is the "close to the PBass sound" but with that buttery delicious thin neck.

Just bought a nos Big Al, not my first by a longshot, but i found this one seems to have an issue with the middle pickup, as in It doesn't work. with all three buttons up the bass has no output, with just the middle down, it still has no output, My other SSS sounds like god in any position, and to be fair this new one sounds great, or seems to with the other pickups. I've only used it through the monitors in my home recording studio to test it. I already emailed EBMM customer service, where i'm sure they will take care of me. Im just frustrated. And looking to see if it is a defect from this date of production. It must have been sitting in their warehouse for a while. It still has the old tuners.
You're not the first one that I've heard that happened to, but there certainly hasn't been many. Best case scenario, it's probably some bad wiring from the middle pickup. The first Big Al I ordered was a few months after it was first introduced and that one was no stranger to being seen by customer service in SLO. I must've sent it in three times or more. Hang in there. We know the Big Al plays like a champ.

Yeah.. And the price was insane. But considering my first big al which has worked flawlessly was a gift from Sterling this one doesn't feel like such s bargain.
Just added my second Big Al 5 to the fold. This one is a BA5-SSS with Roasted Maple neck, ebony fretboard, Black Sugar finish, Ball Family Reserve. A real beautiful instrument.
Between my BA5-H and this BA5-SSS, I've got all the tones that I need covered.
Looks like my 3 tone Sunburst American Standard Precision 5 and Hofner are going on the market.

I like it, although I think it might look better on a pearl gray or charcoal mist-type paint job.

that was a roasted maple neck with a gloss finish, and yes, they were a limited edition "Ball Family Reserve" offering.

I acquired my Big Al SSS a couple of months ago used from a GC online at a very attractive price. That can be a hit or miss thing buying from them off of those little low-def photos they have, but I lucked out! Big Al arrived in it's original case in pristine minty condition. A change to chrome flats and some tweaking of the action, and he's perfect. I'll probably keep him forever.
