Musicman Big Al Club

I have a question for you. Your 4h Big Al, How bright is it's sound? Does it have much of a Stingray sound? Mine does not and is relatively dark, even with stainless steel strings. I just wonder if it is the nature of the beast or if I need to send it to a tech. I can find videos of a SSS Al on youtube, but not a 4H.
Perhaps you can shed some light (sound info) on this. (I crack myself up with these puns!)

Hi Ken. I have played somewhat recent Stingrays, and I also own a USA SUB from a few years back, and to my ear, the Big Al has all of that sound and then some. I don't know if it shows in my picture, but mine is strung with tapewounds. Even with that, it doesn't lack in brightness at all, for me. Something sounds not quite right from the description of yours. Have you adjusted the pickup ?

Thanks for the response. You got me thinking.
Sometimes ya just have to get extreme.
In a nutshell: I turned the high mids and the low mids all the way off. The treble all the way up and the bass at half. I put the series/parallel switch in the "down" position. Bam! Clangy and tinny. Not a sound I like, but the sizzle it was missing was back. Put the same button in the "up" position, changing nothing else, and the sizzle is missing. I think I have found the problem. There is more to it, but this is the crux of the biscuit.
I will contact EBMM and see if they can help figure it out.

The 4sss Big Al is the cat's meow, as is the Bongo. There are no greater. Not even my SR5.

Cost me a bit for a cosmetic change but we all agree that Tort will look better right?

First quick gig with new nickel Low Riders, light gague. Found my strings for this bass. Snappy pickstyle, and it feels like the neck likes this tension a little better

I haven't turned on the active circuit since I got this bass.
