MusicMan Cases - Will a Bongo 5 HH fit...

Hey guys,

I'm just curious as to whether or not a Bongo 5 HH will fit inside one of the newer StingRay 5 HH cases without any sort of modifications needing to be done. Can anyone share some insight into this?

Thanks!

I'm not so sure it will fit. I have a Stingray bass and a Bongo bass and on the bongo case, while it is 99% like a regular Stingray case, it is slightly different. Where the bottom horn is on the Bongo, it has a slight notch cut out for it in the Bongo case. As a result, a Bongo will not fit in a normal Stingray case.

I actually just checked by switching my basses in each others cases and neither bass will not work in the other. It surprised me but the Stingray will not fit in the Bongo case either as the Bongo does not have as wide of a body. On the Stingray case, the Bongo would not fit because the notch was missing for the bottom horn and even the body area was a little different too.

I can't say for sure either. The case for my 4-string Stingray Classic says "Stingray/Stingray 5" near the handle. To me, that would suggest that only the 'Rays would fit properly in the case. But that's just conjecture on my part. Ray Salamon's post suggests that they WILL fit.

jmattbassplaya, if you're in the Memphis area, you're more than welcome to bring your Bongo by my house to see if it'll fit in my 'Ray case.

Mine could be a matter of vintage too, as my Bongo is years older than the Stingray. The only real difference between the two cases is a larger cut for the lower horn in the Stingray case - but the bongo still fits snugly and doesn't shift or move in the case once closed.

Haha, well it seems that there are a lot of mixed answers here :p

Jeff,
Thanks for the offer. I guess with the way I worded the OP it sounds as if I have a Bongo instead of a Ray, when in fact it's the other way around lol.

The reason I'm so curious is because I'm trying to work out a trade with another TBer and as it stands he doesn't have a case for his Bongo and we're trying to see if I could just keep my Ray's case and use it for the Bongo. I would assume it couldn't because the case is clearly labeled StingRay/StingRay 5, but you never know.

If it helps any, here's a pic of the case my Ray 5 came in:

What's the overall length of your Bongo 5? I have a MM case for my Bongo 4 that I will be selling. I just sold the Bongo 4 to an overseas buyer and we can't ship it in the case due to size and cost.

Actually, I have a Ray 5 right now and was trying to see if a Bongo 5 would fit in the Ray's case. While I can't get any physical measurements myself, EBMM's web page seems to say that the Bongo 5 is a bit longer than a Bongo 4, and much longer than a Ray 5.

I'm telling you it won't do it. Where the lower horn is on the Bongo, there is a notch that has to be cut out to make it fit. I can take pictures of mine and show you on Sunday if you would like. If you went wit ha non EBMM hardshell case, then it might work but the thing I love about the EBMM hardshell cases is that they are custom molded to fit each model very well.

Nah, I'll take your word for it. Besides, I just realized that I have one of those really spacious RoadRunner cases laying around the house unused. I'll just use that :)
