NICE! My friends dad owns a pre-eb mm, and its the only other one ive ever seen.

do you realize your bass is probably worth at least 5 digits???

Yes it's one of the last Pre-EB's. It's an '83 and I think that '84 was the last. During this period the Stingrays could get a bit funky. But I lucked out on this one. Lots of tone and grunt in that slab body. It is a rock & funk machine.

I'm not too sure that you've got the value correct. I think that they are still a bargain

Not quite that much. Pre-EBs in very good shape (according to Vintage Guitar Magazine) are worth about $3K. The ones you see for sale are about the same price. I know this because I'm constantly prowling for the right one.

Hi guys!
You all seem to know a lot about Musicman basses, so I was wondering if you could answer a question for me:
I have found a site that sells a Musicman Stingray with the 2-band EQ. The site offers a wide range of colours, but i was wondering what colour the pickguard would be? If I were to order a bass in white, with a rosewood fingerboard, would the pickguard be white or black, as I have seen both in pictures?

Just looking at all the option for a Stingray pickguard it seems the sky is the limit on choices.

For me, I prefer a black pickguard on a white Stingray. It's just a classy look to my eye.

Finally got a Stingray. I'm liking this bass a lot. The EQ is pretty subtle which I like. The bass is well balanced, not so heavy 9-10 pounds (I estimate by the weight of my other basses) and the neck does not feel chunky at all. I won't get to play it out until friday. :bassist:

I think 3k is high for anything but a very early model rare color in mint condition with case and candy. According to my 2009 vintage price guide (and ebay sales reflect this as pretty accurate), 1976-1979 Stingrays (in great condition) are $2400-2600, 1980-1984 $1000.000-$1200.00, and 1985-1991 are $850-$1000.00.

In fact, I passed on a near mint 1977 Ray (rootbeer/maple) with case for $2500.00, earlier this year.

2001 StingRay fretless -
I have the original tort guard but removed it as I love the all wood finish too. I may fit a see-thru guard at some point.
