Try a multi effects unit to get a taste of what different effects do to your tone, then you can choose the type of pedals to aim for.
A multi effects is generally a "jack of all trades but master of none"

Yes, there is. For me anyway. A B7K is vital to me and my setup/tone/sound. I will most likely never play without it.
