I've played a few years ago with a vintage Mustang bass that I saw hanging in the walls of a musical store. Right off the bat, it was one of the heaviest basses I've ever tried. That thing could be used as an anchor.

What weight are Mustang basses are the any that are lighter than others ? Thank you

Mustangs are lighter than Ps and Js, but if it's just weight you are concerned with there are a whole lot of short scale options these days.

They are smaller, and thinner, and generally made from the same woods as Ps and Js, so on average, they are lighter than a P or a J. However, their weight can vary considerably. You can find copies of them that are heavier than a P or a J – especially the old blonde ones from the '70s, that were made of ash (a wood with very wide weight range).

My Mustang Player PJ is a little over 8lb, probably 8lb, 2 or 3 oz.

My 2020 Squier 60s CV mustang is around 7 lbs.

My only Bass at the moment is an Ibanez Mikro I just got back into bass playing a couple of years ago, I did play bass when I was in my teens that was about 55 years ago . i am learning to read notatation which is slow going, the Mikro is 6lbs 7oz with a 28.6 inch scale it does sound ok but the volume and tone are more like on off switches also when I play seated I find it hard to play up around the 12th fret so i was thinking a slightly longer scale would be better as it would make the 12th fret further from the body , I am not set on a Mustang but I do like the look of some of them , the new Acinonyx (cat bass) is 5lbs 7oz 29.6 inch scale ,the Lakland skyline 30 is between 7 and 8 lbs so they tell me . I am on Vancouver Island BC so there are not a lot of short scale basses in the stores to try
