Mustang/Coronado tuners question.

Howdy folks. I'm hoping someone might be able to help out with this one...

I'm currently restoring a 66/67 Fender Coronado and needed to source some replacement tuners. Looking at the headstock - the tuner plates are the same size as the Fender Mustang:

So assumed they were the same & bought a set of vintage Mustang tuners (which unfortunately didn't have the bushings). This morning I measured the Coronado holes to double check the diameter to order the correct replacement bushings and they were 11/16" ..... Which are apparently the larger size Vintage Fender tuners .... :help:

They look about the same - but ATM I'm unsure if the tuners I just bought (in transit) are going to fit the Coronado neck.

Can anyone confirm the dimension of the vintage Mustang tuner peg? Are the reissues the same as the vintage ones?

Tx, Vin

Thanks Jeff. I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself very well here...
The key here is getting the correct shaft size. The second link has the correct plate but doesn't mention diameter. If the original Mustang is 11/16 then I'm sorted. I just need 11/16 bushings.

It seems unlikely that Fender would have specially made tuners for the Coronado - 11/16 shaft with small plates....???... I'm hoping not.

BTW lollipops would be nice but not essential.

** Edit - I think the MIJ Tuners/plates confused me here. The smaller plates have smaller poles. Not so with Mexi/Highway 1 and Mustang....

Here's the story so far...

I spent yesterday getting the electronics in.... Wow. have you aver wondered how they get a prewired harness into a holowbody? No me neither! Let's just say you can't just unscrew the pickguard. :p

I got it in but unfortunately all the pushing and shoving seems to have broken a solder..... So out it comes again. -sigh-

I am pretty certain both of those Hipshot tuning keys are 11/16" as that is a standard size for most Fenders, outside of those with Gotoh GB7s, like some of their 5 string basses have used over the years.

hmm. Well today I got a set of vintage Mustang tuners and a set of authentic Fender bushings (they were 7 bucks) ...... and they don't fit. The poles are the tiniest bit too big.

dang. :(

It's so close that it looks like I could sit down with sandpaper and get it working. Strange that Fender parts would be so close but NQR??!

Suck-o-rama. At $7 I would be attempting a little home hone job.

Looking at the silver lining, all these tribulations and challenges are going to make the bass that much sweeter once it's thumpin' and grindin'!

they are mandatory, to me!!

God bless you, lucky "£$$%%&: tell us all the story behind this rescue, please!!!

Electronics on a hollow/semihollow are some sort of... ESP/paranormal stuff; they are just done... completely out of the body:

1) put two beers into the fridge at the beginning

2) while on the table, wire the controls, the output jack and the pickups togheter

3) insert everything inside, with the aid of some tool, even "sewing machine wire" and use lots of patience.

4) take out the two cold beers at the end of the job and stop cursing the saints.

:) V.

Nice! I always wanted to play a Coronado...

welcome to the club!!! They reissue every damn thing on this planet, but no way for the Coronado!!! Currently it seems they are even thinking of reissueing the Guild Starfire; Gibson came out with a Midtown (sort of EB2D with 34" scale and scaled down body), Gretsch has several beautiful hollows in the catalogue etc... but the Coronado currently has zero possibilities...

Welcome to one of the smallest clubs on TB.
This must NOT be the original neck because the headstock says Coronado I, but this is definitely a
Coronado II. A CII has two pups/ 5 controls; a CI one pup/two controls. Also, the bridges are different.

Nice! I always wanted to play a Coronado. Hope you're not planning on refinishing it! The patina looks great!
Personally, I’d love to see you refin this beauty, providing it’s a first class refin.
