if i was into short scale basses, id totally get one. feels too small to me though...
maybe ill have to give them another shot.

There are rumors that the new Squier VM Mustang is hitting stores right about now. I might try to find one of those.

One of my high school buds had a Mustang long ago, but I never played it. I think it sounded pretty good from what I remember.

I prefer the orange or blue with the racing stripe. Had one in 1979, because Tinay Weymouth was using it and she let me play hers at a show once. I got it at We Buy Guitars for almost nothing. Should have kept it.

The only bass I really don't want is a precision. Never really liked the necks in my hands, never really liked 'em.

This bass kicks major ass. The low end thump, the easier size, the piano like sound, the reasonable price. Everything about this is awesome! I'd always planned on getting a Precision but that was more because it is such a classic, not because i really want it. THIS I WANT! :hyper:

+1
The mustang is a nice one.
It's just that the necks on all the re issue ones i have tried were WAY too thin for me.
I like teh originals tho-VERY much.
...but still prefer the musicmaster.

I have small hands and I'm used to playing a Jazz so the thin neck works out perfectly for me. I think I live my whole life with just a Mustang and a Stingray. I won't though. ;)

one of my students just got his hands on an old CIJ Mustang... man, it's a sweet instrument! he's only 11, and a small 'un at that, so the short scale is perfect for him. but yeah, it totally sounds like a Precision, and I love that it's got the string-through bridge/body. I can't quite adjust to the smaller scale, but it's great; plays good, feels really nice in the hands, and definitely has a big sound for such a small piece!

+1, thats about where i am at.

I really dig my Mustang as well. It has a clarity of tone that is unlike any other bass I've owned.

I only wish it had more E string oomph! It always requires some "low end augmentation" in the mix.

In rehearsal last night we changed up an original to have a 16th note gallop line that was just sounding muddy on my Jazz unless I went all "middy". But on the Mustang even the 16th notes retain focus.

I love the fit and feel of my Mustang, but I agree mine falls a little short in the sound department. My modded Bronco on the other hand is killer in the sound department, but the neck is on the wide side. I need to just combine the two.
