Mxr bass synth sb301

I liked the MXR on some of it and EHX on others. Too bad you don’t have Future Impact V4 VIP to compete as well.
Yes, me too. I had the first version of the Future Impact, it was a GREAT pedal, but the inability to tweak the patches properly in a gig situation was very frustrating to me, that's the main reason why I sold it. The EHX is great in this sense, and the the MXR offers a nice compromise, with its 8 presets.

Check out the new v4.5 Future Impact. All of those things and more have been addressed since v4. It also plays original DX7 patches too now!

For those who also experienced a similar issue as myself and those who posted earlier where foot angle would accidentally press the tiny preset button:

Some of the solutions I saw here work great, but I wanted to share the one I settled on also. The Rockboard PedalSafe A1.1 suits my needs well and looks good in my opinion. It requires using an external switch for preset swapping but for me that’s much preferred to accidentally swapping presets mid song.

Just another option for folks who were frustrated as I was!

Just watched that yesterday, as well. I plugged up my Ampero switch I used with my HX to the Bass Synth and got the presets moving back and forth. I'm still puzzled by a few parameter settings and may ask some questions later.....

How are you getting it to go backwords? i have also the ampero switch but mine only goes forward with de A button, nothing happens with de B button but also i cant get it to go backwords holding de A button how its supposed to

I also have the ampero, only one button functions (as expected) and holding down button does go backwards, you can even hold it down and it scrolls backwards very nice. Only thing I can suggest is if you are using a TRS cable, to try a standard 1/4 inch?

It wasnt working as expected cause inwas using TRS instead of TS, wuth the TS cable i can go back and forth (only left button). With the TRS only goes forward. It would be eay better if both buttons would work but… thx for replying

I’ve been using the built in switching (long press and then tap) but I accidentally switched it mid-song at a gig (oops) and couldn’t get back easily during the song. So I was thinking I would pick a Tap pedal… is that not a good solution? Or is there a reason to get the Ampero instead?

I’ve had this pedal for a few months now through beta testing, and I can honestly say—there’s nothing like it on the market.

That said, it’s not a lazy man’s pedal. You’ll want to understand some basic synthesis to get the most out of it. Learning the secondary controls is key, especially for dialing in tracking settings that feel locked in.

Here’s a sample of Preset 2—straight Greg Phillinganes vibes.

Check out my page to hear more clips and see just how fast and musical this thing really is.

Great playing and the sound is killer. Actually the sound on preset two is the Stevie wonder Tonto sound. The Phillingaines patch is the first one. I found that I like the Stevie patch more because it lets me blend in the sound of my electric bass with the tone intact. So I made several presets with variations based on the Stevie patch. I like to sound like my bass parts are being shadowed by a keyboard player. To me that sounds fatter and more expressive. The reason why I'm not wild about the patch #1 is that I don't know how to mix in my bass. The mix knob seems to be assigned for something else and I can't figure out how to make it behave like a Mix control.

That’s a good idea, as I have definitely hit that little button while playing live before and it wasn’t great 😃

I had a bunch of these laying around at home so here’s my ‘big blue button’ solution so I don’t hit that tiny button anymore accidentally.

I know that besides the MXR Bass Synth you also have the new Future Impact V4.5.

The FI tracks a lot better than the MXR. With the MXR your playing needs to more precise and articulate while the FI allows you to a bit more “sloppy” (for lack of a better word).
However in my opinion, right out of the box the sounds from the MXR are much more rich, accurate. They’re more useful than what I’ve found with the FI.

One extremely disappointing point in the design of the FI is it’s “non-standard” shaped casing. Odd shaped pedals can create problems with pedalboard layouts.
The previous version was even worse.

I still have both pedals, but the Darkglass Anagram is going to eventually win this battle as they are very near completing the synth sounds we are all craving. Once that happens it will replace every pedal on my pedalboard.

I had the same issue. I glued a little plastic strip about the thickness of a pickguard with some double sided tape nudged up above the preset lights where is says bass synth. That works very well

The MXR Tap only cycles through presets with the MXR Bass Synth, and doesn’t do anything else with specifically the MXR Bass Synth.

It can also cycle through the presets one before another. If you hold it down for 1-2 seconds it cycles backwards through the presets, which is actually pretty handy with the 9 presets to cycle through.

FWIW tap pedals are stupid simple to build if you are interested. I’m not, but I got a momentary switch/normally open tap pedal from Saturnworks for $24. There’s a 20% holiday promo code on their website right now. That Saturnworks tap pedal works perfectly with my MXR Bass Synth, and looks way cooler on my board than the MXR Tap would. Plus their customer service was beyond excellent when I wanted to adjust my order after it was placed.
I just ordered a Tap switch from temu. I hope it will work 77% off closeout 17.-

Would love to see that happen. I’ve been let down by the synth and filters in the HX and the FI was too much computer editing to get what I want, so sticking with the MXR for now. When anagram finally is fully loaded, I’ll take another look.
