MXR Iso-Brick

Does the port next to it test right?

I went to touch it, it sparked. I stopped. I'm done testing. It still works so I'm pretty sure that spark wasn't damaging. But I don't want to mess with it anymore. It works now with everything else, I'm leaving it be till Dunlop responds. See what they say. CME/reverb already offered a replacement so that's good. I told him I'm waiting to hear back from Dunlop as well.

Wait? The dead port now works? Or just every other port?

Yeah sparks are bad. The f-deck is totally dead for the moment?

I do. How would I test that??

Yeah, I'm not too hip on a sacrificial lamb pedal haha. I do have a few that I'm not using, and their not valuable really. But still, don't wanna fry a pedal just to see if it will ya know.
There's a description towards the bottom of this page on the Dunlop site about how to check the output.

Don't ask me how or why, but I think this stupid brick just fried my dos gunslinger too!!! Maybe I'm speaking too soon, but the LED won't light. All I did was unplug it from the one 18v out and plugged it into the other 18v out, next to the top left 6/15v variable volt port. That's it. Now my gunslinger won't light.

It's too late and I was getting into bed when I thought, hey, why not try the 18v next to what I think is the bad port. Yeah, great idea. After that, the gunslinger wouldn't light, I unplugged it and tried it in my ISO5s 18v port. No light.

I'm so pissed right now. This stupid PSU is killing my flippin pedals!!! I'm done. I'm not plugging anything into this stupid brick anymore. In fact, I may just rip off my board tomorrow. I don't understand how this thing could be doing this to my pedals. I swear I'm not doing anything wrong. Checking things twice before I do them. None of this makes any sense at all.

Yeah, the gunslinger is dead. I mean, it works. But doesn't. No led, and it's super quirky distorted even with the gain all the way down. So something burned in it. Really over this thing.

I'm really not liking the ISO brick right now. It's coming off my board tomorrow. Lovely, I have practice too. May have to go board less. This blows so bad.

When you speak to MXR support maybe don't mention the sparks when you touched the multimeter to the other port...they may not like that...

My gunslinger was working as it should've been after that. Yet it still worried me, that's why I got up last night. When I turned my board on at that point, it was fine. Everything worked. I was worried about that 18v port. So what did I do? I plugged my gunslinger into it. Then something blew in it.

Edit: to clarify the overall issue. The 5/16v top left port was giving me issues. So I unplugged what was in it, the fdeck. The fdeck does not work now. Late last night, maybe because I'm stupid but it was really bothering me, I tried unplugging my gunslinger from the bottom right 18v port (the gunslinger still worked at This point) and tired it in the top left 18v port. At that point, the gunslingers led went out. Tested it on its own, it's super nasty distorted and unusable. No led.

Now, this was after I tried testing those two top left ports with a volt meter. The 5/16v port wasn't reading anything. So I tried the 18v. That's when it arced and I stopped what I was doing. I didn't touch the two top left ports until I tried plugging my gunslinger back into that 18v port later last night. So I guess it's possible that the gunslinger was my fault. I still don't understand why. Yes, there was an arc. But I thought these ports were surge protected, no??

Very stressed right now :rollno:

Should I leave the brick on my board for now, letting it power what it is and use my board for the time being, leaving those two ports alone?

Or should I just take the brick completely off and not use it at all at this point?
If you suspect there is something wrong and you risk frying more pedals I would most definitely take it off and use some other power supply until you've figured out what's up with the MXR.

I think I will take it off tonight. I have practice so I wont have time so Ill probably just have to make a makeshift board and go. This sucks donkey's. I just feel like the unit I got is bad. Well that one port is anyway. I would really like to see what a Dunlop tech has to say about this thing when all is said and done and he's opened it up and looked at it. Really curious.

Did you take the measurement out of a cable or right out of the PS? If you took it right out of the PS could you have possibly touched the probe to the center pin (negative) and (hot) inner sleeve at the same time? I'm no electrician so I'm not sure what that would do but I wouldn't be surprised if that would spark or fry something.
