MXR M80 Bass DI - Dumb Questions

I tried a search and found several threads as well as checking Youtube, but none of them answers my dumb questions....

1. Is it a true bypass pedal? For example, if I add this to my pedal board and put it at the end of my chain, i.e. Tuner into Big Muff into M80 then out to the amp, but never turn it on, does it still color the sound at all? If I engage the pedal, does it cut everything going to the amp?

2. Is it possible to use the MXR M80 DI pedal as distortion only thru the amp as a regular stand-alone pedal? In other words, I'm playing a gig with no FOH, so I'm using my amp, I turn the pedal on to use the distortion part of it, is it going to cut all the sound since it expects to go to a mixer/FOH?

Thanks in advance!

1)Well, the M81 is buffered bypass: BASS PREAMP

So I think it's a fair guess that the M80 would follow suit.

2) Yes you can use it as just a distortion pedal. When I'm using my amplifiers, my Two Note Le Bass pre-amp becomes, essentially an OD pedal/ effect loop box. The M80 will do the same

In the mid 90's while moving all around the country, I some time in a small town near Austin called Dripping Springs. Small world! Where in RI were you? Using your dates and doing some math, we're almost the same age.
