What did you use to oil the neck? Im doing to same to a cheapo bass I got for free and I like the darker tint you neck ended up being.

Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil. Very easy to apply. Just wipe it on, let dry and repeat. I usually smooth it in between coats with 0000 steel wool.

It is made for refinishing gun stocks. I would think you could find it through a sporting goods store or firearms dealer. You can also order it through Amazon.

Looks like the stamp on the neck heel says SR-640. Like this one...

Made in Japan circa 2000. Those SR4 necks are great. I still have an SR-690, which is the same neck with an ash body and trans finish.

Finally finished!
Took a while longer than I wanted due to curing the paint. The paint didn't turn out quite the way I wanted but overall I'm happy with it. My favorite part is the neck. I think it looks so much better with the oil finish than painted!

The original preamp was fried. I decided to go passive with a V/V/T setup and a Les Paul style pickup selector switch.
