There is no way you can get this kind of ware from normal playing.
Some type of relic has gone on.
A headstock shot would be nice ?

I love the "tired" looking tug bar and rusty as hell screws.
The control plate came out nice, but need to shine it up a bit where the fingers touch.
The upper horn wear interesting...but far from what I expect from normal wear...still cool though.
Dot markers are fantastic. Board looks about 175 years old.
anyway.....I love the look...pickguard has some new quirks that I love.

Are those lighter burns above the thumbrest? If they are, I am hoping to see a burnt from cigarettes headstock. 
I love me a good worn-in Jazz. Some of the wear does look a bit suspect, but my buddy's 66 Jazz has some real weird wear marks too, and it's a totally original player's road warrior...

Looks great to me.....that could absolutely be honest play wear....I've seen many old Fenders that show that kind of wear....usually it's a bass that's been dragged around without a case for years.....or played heavily and roughly by a very sweaty dude.
Is this going to end up the next 35 page argument over yet another fact they NOBODY can honestly call one way or the other????
Unless the original owner is in this conversation somewhere the right answer is basically impossible to come up with.
It makes absolutely no difference if ANYONE has seen 200 basses that have these exact same wear patterns, or if another guy has been collecting Pre CBS for 45 years and has never seen one like it.
It all means absolutely nothing at all.
There's a first for everything, and it's thin paint on wood. ANYTHING is possible.
The original owner could have used it for a garden tool for all we know, or slid it across the stage after each show all through the late 60's & 70's and used it as a coffee table in the 80's.
Maybe it's reliced, maybe it's not. But none of you will know unless the OP says he did it, or the original owner says its all natural.

Agreed....but even if the original owner chimed in people would still question it and argue....that's part of the fun of Talkbass after all.

As to the authenticity, so long as it's really a '64 and the op isn't having a go with a CS or something, it's probably legit. Maybe one of the previous owners slept with and caressed the living ish out it to the point of wearing the paint in non-typical play areas.
Nash and them don't have the freedom to do something like this without facing ridicule for obvious reasons. All I know is that the best bass I've ever played was a '63 P at GC Hollywood that had a very similar wear pattern to it.
