Offset forum member Spitfire, now known by the alias Doc Tort, has been perfecting his mix to match the 60s style Fender nitro tort guards. He's been making amazing progress, and I'm definitely onboard for when he starts making bass ones. Am I a hero now?
Well slap me around and call me Sally...that is pretty DARN close to a real vintage tort.
Although the wear, "greening", shrinking, and warping of the 4 ply edges needs a bit of work to really pass it off as the real thing. Great looking tort though! Best I've seen on a repro. I'd buy that if I was looking for a vintage replacement for sure.
Here's my 1962 P bass tort for comparison:
and some more vintage tort guards...
(a nice shrunken, faded 1960 jazz tort guard, pretty orange)
and the bass on the left is a 66 P- tort REALLY varied back in the days
