Well slap me around and call me Sally...that is pretty DARN close to a real vintage tort.

Although the wear, "greening", shrinking, and warping of the 4 ply edges needs a bit of work to really pass it off as the real thing. Great looking tort though! Best I've seen on a repro. I'd buy that if I was looking for a vintage replacement for sure.

Here's my 1962 P bass tort for comparison:

Something is not right. there is paint missing where you dont see it on most real vintage Fenders..inside upper horn etc. I did have a mid 70's telecaster and even thou it was poly (light poly) you could remove the paint in allot of places with ease by using your fingernail and no effort so who knows?

Never carried your bass by the upper horn? I know I'm not the only one. some of my basses have small wear spots on the upper horn from dragging them around without a case at home

I am the original poster. The reason I am so late in replying is because I never looked at the post once I put up the picture. The only reason I put up the picture was to share my treasure. It wasn't a disguised attempt to sell or anything.

I bought this bass from Real Guitars in San Francisco in the late 90s. I consider them reputable.

I dated the pots and the neck to 64 and have no reason to believe it is anything other than all original. It has the reverse tuning keys.

I note that many people think the wear is not authentic. I have no history of the bass so I don't know why the wear occured as it did. If it is a true 64 it is hard to imagine why anyone would relic it.

Surprised it is so controversial.
