In the past year or so I moved from Maryland; where I grew up, to Tennessee. I had been wanting to move to Tennessee for many, many years. My mother passed away suddenly and my father had passed in 2007. I didn't see much reason to stick around anymore, so I moved south; and am I glad I did!
Being a fairly young man (31 now,lol), I was looking for adventure here in the south. I am an avid hiker, mountain biker, off-roader etc. I met a good friend here who moved from upstate New York that had a common interest in gemstones and gold. The Appalachian Mountains offer many precious gems and gold hidden in it's midst.
My friend, Bear; had a nice collection of minerals and gemstones and sparked my interest all the more. He found all of them while mining for gold. We took our common interest and decided to start mining together. I have been extensively studying this whole new field of geology for the past 6 months. To mine successfully, I started studying placer geology, mineralogy, surface-water hydrology, sedimentology and the resulting gemology.
We have since in the past few months mined Gold, Rubies, Sapphires, Topaz, Emeralds, Petrified Woods and a large undiscovered Opal deposit. That is just a small list and we have made other significant discoveries in which, when we are ready; we will be registered as discovering minerals that have not been previously found in that area.
It's been an amazing journey so far and it's only just begun!
