I told the guitarist that I wanted my personal gear back by the end of the day, or I would be forwarding a copy of my police report to his and the drummer's chain of command (drummer is Navy shipyard diver, guitarist is an Army paralegal, other guitarist is a stoner with no job or life of any sort).
Twenty minutes later (bout half an hour ago) I went outside to check my mail, and all my gear was stacked in front of my door, including some gear that I didn't even notice was missing.
Sounds like you ex-drummer didn't fancy the thought of completing his enlistment chipping paint as an Unrated Seaman
Theft of that much $ value worth of gear takes it right out of NJP and right into Court Martial territory
He left a sticky note saying "sorry for the ********, I hope we can still be friends."
I don't think we can
You don't think you can ????
I'm almost at a loss for words here, but I'll give it my best shot:
Get used to being used and abused in this way, because you've surely been asking for it by letting Waaaay too much go on for Waaaay too long
Sheesh, even the geekiest Twidgets on my boat would've never stood for this kind of crap for anywhere near as long as you did. Not to mention the average Bosun' would've ensured that your 'buddy' the drummer went swimming with half a shot of chain wrapped around his ankles.......
Bottom Line: you asked for this and you Got It
Learn from the experience and Don't repeat it !
