My Band Staged A Coup

Go back and read the thread from the beginning. :P

No, I haven't gotten my gear back, and they haven't returned the vocalist's PA yet either.

Yeah...I did read the thread from the begining. Your vocalist brings in the drummer from hell and blah, blah, blah you get jerked around with everyone walking all over you and stealing your gear because you're weak

Now you can't speak your mind to your manipulative vocalist because your wife likes him? So now your vocalist and your wife are calling the shots....Is it possible that she's gonna say "sorry but you're leaving..."

Do I have to spell it out?

Probably, because you're either one of the world's doormats or one of the worlds trolls

The point was, you asked if they were planning on losing me, and I've not been in the band in some time. Vox was shown the door a couple weeks later.

Opium, I am not a troll. Not trying to cause arguments or fights or any of that sort of thing. Life's too short to get your kicks by pissing people off on the intarwebz. And for the record, the original intent of the post was just to rant about the situation for a bit. Hadn't intended it to keep on going.

As far as my gear goes, I filed a report with base police and housing security (two different entities), but they're not doing anything about it, and I was advised to cut contact with these people, which I have done. Don't know what they've done in regards to him at this point, and aside from one video of my son playing the drum set (taken during the time I was in the band and they were still practicing in my garage), I couldn't prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the gear belonged to me to begin with.

Frankly though, at this point, I am not going to let my panties remain bunched over it. The vocalist brought back what he could when he left, but it amounted mostly to a few cables and picks and such, and the remaining stuff, like my drum gear, is not something I personally ever use, so I really don't miss it much unless something brings it up again.

As for right now, I am taking steps to join another band (potentially) where I don't need to worry about leading, I'll just drop the low end on some heads and do the occassional booking. My wife also wants to do a thing with me and another guy (innuendo not intended) as the singer, so I may just do that since it'd be easier to transplant the music when we leave the island.

Dude, it was YOUR gear. What they did was theft, and it's against the law. People go to prison for that. Keep annoying the police about it. Stop letting yourself be treated like a door mat.

You have a right to your property. Man, if it was me, I would have confronted them and made them think that I was going to beat them into a bloody pulp if I didn't get my stuff back. I wouldn't actually do it (probably), but they wouldn't need to know that.

Dude, he's saying the pair of your wife and the vocalist are going to tell you you're out... not the band. :rollno: As in your wife leaves you for the vocalist... sexually, nothing to do with the band.

This thread is more stressful than my job, I'm going to go read in the gear section....

I may be going to PHNS to work SHT on one of the subs - how's the weather there?

Better than Washington this time of year. :P

Been really humid lately though, lots of clouds.

Those of you who suggest I threaten them and the like, all but one of those guys is twice my size, and I only trust my chances against one of them when engaging in fisticuffs, so to speak. Plus, I'm really not a violent guy. I was raised to use violence as a very last resort, and only in a defensive manner.

And those of you guys who're insinuating that my wife has a thing for the vocalist - nope. She just likes the guy for whatever reason and doesn't like me speaking ill of him. No worries about any sort of inequity. And he's no longer in the band, I'm not working with him on his new project, and don't ever hang out with him, though he keeps trying to invite me places. Haven't actually seen him in a month or so now.

Anywho. I appreciate the assertiveness of some of you, and I don't normally let people walk on me, but in this case, outside circumstances (medical issues and the like) have kept my attention away from the relatively minor issue that is my gear, and it helped me maintain my priorities. I did email the rhythm guitar guy last night and politely reminded him about my stuff. Flies with honey and all that. Still waiting on a reply.

Jimmy,

Don't you have other friends you could go over there with and get your stuff back? (Saftey in numbers and unity and all that.) In this overly-litigious day and age you shouldn't have to use your fists.... just a video camera. Gather up a possee and go reclaim your gear... Make sure someone's rolling w/the cellphone camera. If he tries anything stupid, call the cops and use the video to prosecute. You don't have to be a Steven Segal character to stand up for yourself and enforce justice, you just gotta have the stones to take action and the brains to cover your @$$.

Jimmy, you've got a real problem putting yourself inside other people's heads (and I'm including your wife - as I know a little too much about people to accept your view of what's going on).

You do not need PROOF that you had a drum set that was stolen. When you file a complaint against someone - with the police - your word is enough. If you're lying, of course, then you get in trouble.

Sounds like you're dealing with military police. All military police have connections to non-military police. Since the culprit is apparently not military, contact the Honolulu Police Department.

What's so hard about that? Of course, the fact that you keep waiting to do it does NOT make your case a good one.

You might also consider a restraining order (not expensive) so that if the guy shows up at your house again, the police will respond more quickly and he will be warned to stay away from you - or face consequences.

I suppose you're hoping that by playing dead, this guy will move on to some other victim. It's really sad that being "non-confrontational" entails being a total coward, including letting this guy take the vocalist's stuff. If I were that vocalist, I'd be looking for new friends/musicians to play with.

You do realize that unless you give up the milquetoast persona, you're going to have this happen again and again?

Difference is, opossum tastes good with beef stock gravy.

Little update for you.

In my polite email the other day to the rhythm guitarist, I made my displeasure known, and he informed me that he didn't know anything about it, and had nothing to do with the taking of my gear. He said that the drummer went and took it (I knew this already, it was he whom I filed the complaint against), then told the rest of the band that I had let him in and gave it up to him, including the PA, which he'd gotten with the Vocalist's blessing.

I don't know anything about the PA, the vox was still with them when it happened, but he isn't now, and doesn't have it back yet.

I told the guitarist that I wanted my personal gear back by the end of the day, or I would be forwarding a copy of my police report to his and the drummer's chain of command (drummer is Navy shipyard diver, guitarist is an Army paralegal, other guitarist is a stoner with no job or life of any sort).

Twenty minutes later (bout half an hour ago) I went outside to check my mail, and all my gear was stacked in front of my door, including some gear that I didn't even notice was missing. He left a sticky note saying "sorry for the ********, I hope we can still be friends."

I don't think we can, but now I've got it, and it's going on CL or something. Don't really need it any more. Might call up the old Vox and ask if he got his PA back too.

The cynic in me thinks that you made this story up, just to get the talkbass dogpilers off of your case.

But the anti-cynic in me says I'm glad that it worked out for you.

S.P.

There's no way in hell I'd let someone break into my place and take my things, even if they were twice as big and mean as me. That's what they make stunguns and retractable batons for! :D

Ha, ha ,ha!! I too, usually find a good right cross and a kick in the 'nads, usually sorts this sort of thing out!!!
My first question to the guy would have been, "Have you got an appointment? If not, F**k off!!" LOL!

Nope.

It's all piled in the corner by what's left of my bass gear. Wasn't particularly well cared for though. Going to have to replace some heads, buff a bunch of scratches out, and replace some missing nuts.
