Myrtlewood top on Maple body, Maple neck, 200+ year old Brazilian Rosewood board:D. Going with Bartolini dual coils with 3 way coil taps, splitting to: outer coils (in 70's J position), dual at bridge + outer neck or both duals. Matte black neck and headstock. Haven't decided on body finish, might do block inlays. I got Kevin to push the upper neck joint further out and the lower further in than the first JXB's. Should be completed in the next few weeks.

I say tell him to scrap the black finish on the neck and leave it natural...go with a black finish on the maple body instead (leave the top natural)!

+1 :)

IMO ... a natural neck will make that stunning rosewood pop off the board! ... Black might just hinder the beauty of the rosewood.

** But it's your bass to do with it as you'd like ;) :D

With out a doubt ... she's gonna be a beauty when it done.

Very nice. I would have opted for a different body wood, but maple will sound good. I say tell him to scrap the black finish on the neck and leave it natural...go with a black finish on the maple body instead (leave the top natural)!

My favorite Brubakers have either soft Maple or Northern Ash bodies, they sound incredible. I haven't heard anything yet that compares to them, which is why I went with Maple on this one. Just curious, what wood would you go for? I've tried most available body woods and nothing brings it for me like heavy Ash or Maple.

I hear you on the Black finish but I've already seen how it came out on the 7 string version and I'm cool with it. That bass also has black against the top wood, not sure if I'll go the same route... like I said the body finish is still up in the air. Who knows, might go with a color burst on the top, we haven't crossed that bridge yet. The Myrtlewood top is cool but it's not screaming "leave me alone".:D. It's also pretty inexpensive. Might do a grain enhancement to make it pop and a gloss finish vs. the matte finish on the seven. Black and gold hardware too.

Here's the seven...

Thanks for all of the comments. I usually don't post build pics but what the heck.

I like maple bodied basses too. That's going to be a good one!

The very first Brubaker I picked up from funkycarnivore and the Buckeye Burl 5 I got last year hit ridiculously hard with very little effort, both have soft Maple bodies. Maple seems to give me a fuller attack than Norther Ash, which also hits very hard. I like physically agressive (but nowhere near harsh) basses. They put out a lot of sound but are also easily controlled.

My BB on Youtube:

Damn, that bass doesn't sound like that flat does it? He has that eq'd with a lot of high end right? That is REALLY bright. Hurts my ears. I'm sure part of it's partly the distortion from the camera mic but that's still really bright either way.

It's a combination, Andy. The bass is flat as far as I know, the camera isn't exactly hifi so what you don't hear is the lows and mids the camera isn't picking up. While it could be EQ'd to sound like that IRL, I can assure you that's not how it sounds in person flat.

Brad, you still have that bass? The blueburst? Awesome!

Long time no see, Jerome.

I had it up until just a couple of months ago. I traded it in a rare weak moment for a new Brubaker a friend of mine had because he preferred the spacing on the older bass... it was just a little tighter. Now he's buying his bass back. Who knows, I may end up with it back one of these days. I think I have around ten now so I'm letting a few go.

It was the first Brubaker I owned and the reason I got hooked on them. Great bass.
