ha ha no this isnt some amazing 1st build
nor is it an amazing tone i've got from mixing and matching speakers infact there's not much for you gear heads here at all :spit:
the fact is when i said my cab lives i meant it in the literal sense my cab "lives" because after my departure from my last band i moved all my big bass stuff (cabs, old cases, spares) etc into my shed with the idea of moving them somewhere dry before winter....
oops...... i now have a new band and its getting near the stage where we'll be moving from practicing and songwriting in my mates flat to practicing at full volume with amps in a studio so i figured it was time to dig "ol faithfull" out
when i got down there i realised the damp conditions had done her no favours and she now had her own eco system and food chain living on her (yup that white stuff is mould)
so when i said my amp lives i meant it i think at least 60% of it is alive time to dig out the bleach methinks
moral of the story dont store your cabs in damp conditions

i'm dreading looking on the inside i had a little sniff through the port and i have to say it smells rather yeasty i think the insulation is gonna need to come out but i just dont wanna stick my hand in there :rollno:

my mrs says i need to clean it or throw it out i've tried telling her its not mould its "patina" but she's having none of it :rollno:

any ideas? do i bleach the living snot out of it or do it strip the fabric off and paint the bare wood?

I find that borax is great at getting rid of mould and doesn't have the associated smell and toxicity that bleach does. I use it all the time when I am restoring cabs.

Borax is a powdered laundry cleaner that you can get at the grocery store. Add a little water, not enough to dissolve all the borax, you want it gritty. Use a stiff bristle brush, stiffer than a tooth brush. Scrub and rinse, repeat until clean.

well two reasons

1: i cant afford a new cab

2: that plucky little hartke transporter is one of the 1st cabs i ever had, i bought it 2nd hand back in 2002 and its been my main gig cab ever since

its survived.....

a mini monsoon at an open air festival,
being shared with idiot bands who turn everything up to 11 because its not their gear there trashing,
a trip out the van on the M65 at around 62mph,
a trip down (in total) roughly 4 flights of stairs,
having in total well over 5 pints of lager spilt on it,
having me and my mrs make sweet love on it,
being used as a makeshift table,
being used as a makeshift ladder,
being on the local news station at a charity gig headlined by the damned,
having a large lady fall over it while drunk and singing along to "zombie",
and sliding down a loading ramp with a bass case on it

all that and apart from a few dings, rips and a new grill its never missed a single beat and its become something of a legend with anyone i've played in a band with i cant let her die after all we've been through :bawl:

Now that is what i call one reliable and road worthy cab. and M65? You from the UK?
