Unpopular opinion, but I really like it with the first switch engaged - light breakup with a bright tone, almost like a presence knob turned up.
I tend to lean towards all switches off.
The middle and bottom switch are a bit on the higher gain/compressed side for my tastes.
However, I do like the openess/extra push from the top switch.
So yes, agreed.
I liked mine best with all switches off and the gain set so that we're in the gray area between actual audible breakup happening and completely clean.
It would drastically change the sound of a light OD played into it, and it felt like getting me more of a rock P bass sound out of my J.
I really only got rid of it because I needed the space on my board for something else, something I actually used more than the sound the Jive gave me.

Today is one of the days where I can't wait to hear the distinct sound the brakes of the DHL van make when it stops in front of my door.
I have not checked tracking data yet, but both pedals I bought were sent out on Monday, so there's a high chance at least one of them makes it.

The color "Hooker's Green" is not a certain shade of green that is favored by certain ladies of questionable reputation.
It was created by and is named after William Hooker, who used it to paint plants.
And this is the Hooker's Green Bassmachine, which is created by Björn Juhl and made by OneControl.

The Hooker's Green Bass Machine is a great pedal!
It's strictly overdrive, even with the gain full on.
I've not yet explored the EQ functions enough for an exhausting description, but let me say this:
It works. If you're looking for something that can go from a hint of a sizzle to full-on overdrive and every shade between those two, this is something to consider.
My current favorite mini pedal is (or was?) the Wampler Belle. The Hooker's Green Bassmachine might very well topple that throne.
Mr. Björn Juhl really knows what a bass needs, especially in a mix, so I'm very curious to try it out there.

Before I saw the Royal Jelly pic, my head was thinking "Prunes and Custard" as something for the queen. It is definitely named for an English palate, if nothing else!

Ohhh that's very interesting. I've slowed down the pace at which I'm trying new pedals, but this medium gain overdrive slot that the Belle currently occupies on my board is the one I've been rotating through recently. I've always been curious about the green bassmachine (and several of the other one control overdrives). I guess I'll be keeping my eyes out for one.
Looks like you got V1 - the updated '4k' has an additional low boost control.
The V1 has that control through a mini pot on the side, you'll have to insert a very small screwdriver and carefully handle it.

The treble knob is most likely a cut only control, but it's very subtle.
The 'hidden' bass knob is capable of boost, I'd say, but it's also subtle.
Set the volume at noon and then twist any remaining knobs to any given position and you'll get a good sound out of it.

I know you are from Canada - so while somewhat removed, you're still in the Commonwealth.
The lady that has been your queen for all your and all your parents' lives has kicked the bucket at some point and was replaced.

Bent sheet metal (heavy AF), allen key screws, a steampunk style cockpit.
The PCB is ... a work of art in itself - quite literally.
But the Californian beekeepers did not stop at that. This is one to bend your head around for a minute before you get it.
Let me try it like this:
There is a dry blend - and this one really works as a dry blend. I'm quite used to having that knob work as a volume control for the dry sound, but this knob is 100% wet at fully CCW and 100% dry at fully CW, with 50/50 at noon.
And then there are two more audio paths, one travels through an overdrive, the other through a fuzz, and there's another knob that controls the blend of that with fully CCW being 100% overdrive and fully CW being 100% fuzz. Only there's two of them and you can switch between them.
And then there's a knob that does more treble buzz, but only in the fuzz circuit, so it does nothing when you have the dry blend fully CW or the overdrive/fuzz blend fully overdrive. The knobs that are a lot easier to understand are the master gain knob, the master volume knob and the two band EQ.
The EQ is active with 10dB boost or cut. Bass is 80Hz and Treble is 2k (or was it 3? I think it's 2).
So the foot switches do
-on/off (true bypass)
-the treble boost that only affects the fuzz
-toggle between the two blend knobs.
Now the big and obvious question is:
How well does this thing work with a single gain knob?
And my answer after about half an hour of playing is: Not well, I'm afraid.
I feel like you're forced to compromise here. There are quite a few gain settings that work with the blend strongly favoring the OD and there are some with a blend of both, or even favoring the fuzz side, but they are not the same - so I'm forced to play either side with a little more or a little less sizzle than I like.
The clean blend on this pedal is not really necessary, if you ask me. With the blend fully wet there are copious amounts of low end thunder available both through OD and fuzz, which can be thundered up even further by using the EQ.
It's a completely weird and fun concept, though. I tried to get a fuzzy lead tone, but got completely de-railed and then plugged in the Effectrode Tube Drive again, trying to get a lead tone there, but then played the Tube Drive into the BDPG and oh my god, that tone was awesome! I spent the next half hour playing with that and then I realized that I just had played old pedals instead of the new ones.
Well, the Hooker's Green does steal some top end.
