I've read up a bit and it seems the Daddy-O is based on the Marshall Guv'nor.
The Marshall Guv'nor is known to provide an 'interesting' tone on bass, but cutting more lows than good for the application in our sonic territory.
I just got one last week after reading about it here. It'll go from a clean boost to full out distortion. You also get some different types of distortion with the bias control and the triode/pentode switch.
The Rodenberg LDP? I seem to remember reading their earliest bass drives were Tubescreamer-based which is why I mostly never paid much attention. Will be curious what you think
Yeah, it's the LDP. I remember that a guitarist I play with had the 808 / 909 combo pedal on his board and it sounded great.
That deluxe LDP and the MM model are intriguing. Look forward to your review. Watched a video and it sounds like a drive sound I might like.
I have the LDP its a cool pedal but it took up to much pedalboard real estate. It lost its spot to the Hamstead SubSpace that did similar things taking up less space and more versatile. The SubSpace lost out to the Broughton Scorpion. MBD3 took the place of the Scorpion which was moved to my gig travel pedalboard. I have to find a fuzz pedal to pair with the MBD3 or with the Tubedrve (if it's a keeper).
My gig board is set Scorpion into Calamity.
Trying to find a Fuzz pedal with top jacks I like as much as the Calamity. Last attempt was Red Muck Bass (no top jacks) I like it but don't love. 1st up Tarantula by Sushibox then I'll try Son of Pharaoh. Hopefully the Tubedrve/Tarantula combo will give me plenty of tube goodness and take less space so I get my Dispatch Master back on my board. Dirt pedal rabbit hole is deep.

Never tried the Son of Pharaoh but did have the regular Pharaoh. Massive fuzz, versatile too.
You’ll like it, I had one and found myself using it on all of the time but working with a tiny board I found I could live without it. They’re well made, remind of the feel and compression of a power tube; really nice pedal

The first impression let me down a bit. Why? The build quality and enclosure. What's there to complain? I'll tell you.
The older Rodenberg effects I had in my hands were made from sheet metal - I'm guessing stainless steel. Think 3Leaf or Origin.
Something you could use as a door stopper, drop from a bridge on a busy highway for a cheap thrill, hide behind in a gunfight (advanced hiding skills required) and occasionally use as an effect pedal. When you retire from music many decades later, you could bring it to your town's best blacksmith and have it forged into a sword.
The LDP comes in a diecast aluminum enclosure which does not exactly look like a Hammond 1590 series model. A quick look inside confirms that it is an Eddystone 2690P/SL. Eddystone, however, was bought by Hammond in 1998.
The face plate is acrylic.
I have to admit that I would not enjoy a gunfight behind this particular pedal.
This particular topic, of course, could be ushered in the realms of philosophy and be phrased "How good is good enough? Modern guitar pedals and armor piercing ammunition".
I'm quite sure the Hammond and therefore Eddystone enclosures will do more than fine for many decades, as long as you use the thing for the intended purpose and steer clear of highway bridges and gunfights.
But I cannot help it, seeing how someone went the extra mile and put their pedals in a special total-overkill enclosure and then downgrades that is somewhat of a downer.
However, what remained unchanged is the feeling of solid quality when you look at everything else. The knobs feel ultra solid, there is no play anywhere and they need a good amount of force to turn. The switches feel great, as do the foot switches. The power input is mounted on the PCB. I don't know why, but I prefer it mounted to the case, but that's just me.
Even though Rodenberg dropped out of the elite league, they remain at the very top of the .... elite 2 league(?).
