Do you remember that issue with the TC RebelHead and how TC handled it when people were rightfully upset?
Well, I can hold a grudge for quite some time, it seems.
I don't know what's doing the heavy lifting here, but the TC Spark into the Fusion is giving me that sweet mellow fuzz I've always wanted. Do like.
I ran across one of these in the second hand market a couple of days ago and my curiosity was immediately sparked. I nearly pulled the trigger without a second thought, but then I googled around a bit to see what it actually does, and somehow, the fire died there.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: There is some sort of mojo-meter that has a hard cap. You can only have so many magic tone sweeteners until your tone stops being sweetened. Some might work against one another while others couple up like a dream.
However, If I wanted something like the Taurus does, I would probably couple up the BJFe Blueberry and the Effectrode LA-1A, to get saturation, compression and tube warmth with fatness.
I'm not doing that, though.
On my big board, I'm pretty set on the Cali76 into Broughton RFE into Noble combination because it gets me the tone I spent years crafting and the small board I use for the metal band, a subtle tone enhancer would feel like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

The method of clipping is neither diode nor tube.
Man, I’ve been thinking about one of these, especially after the Sunray drop I skipped on. There’s a certain “je ne sais quoi” to the Sunray, but all the recent sound samples coming out sound really quite weak compared to the bright, brash thing the Tubedrve does (seemingly) so well.
Still a good idea to try that one, but no.
