My domestication is complete

I'm baking bread from scratch for the second time this week--because I want to. :hiding:

I'm with ya brother. Sure I'm a long, long way from domesticated (really, a long way) but I do love baking bread. In fact, my dad and I used to do it just about every Saturday when I was a kid.

Got any tips? I've got an awesome zwiebach recipe (my mums) that I haven't had a chance to try yet. Hopefully in the next few days.

Man, I love baking bread!!!!

I used to be the head baker on the night shift at a local artisan bakery. I would make sweet, sourdough, wheat, rye, ciabatta, I loved it.

If you can get a stone for your oven do it, that way you arent relying on pans and can have some fun with the forms and shapes of the loaves.

Heaven loves ya
The clouds part for ya
Nothing stands in your way
When you're a boy
Clothes always fit you
Life is a pop of the cherry
When you're a boy!

When you're a boy--you can wear a uniform
When you're a boy--other boys check you out
You get a girl--these are your favorite things
When you're a boy

Boys! Boys!
Boys keep swinging, boys always work it out

Uncage the colors
Unfurl the flag
Life just kissed you hello!
When you're a boy
They'll never clone ya
You're always first on the line
When you're a boy

When you're a boy--you can buy a home of your own
When you're a boy--learn to drive and everything
You'll get your share
When you're a boy!

Boys! Boys!
Boys keep swinging, boys always work it out

Now I'm hungry for fresh, warm, out of the oven bread. Tear the bread into a few pieces and spread soft butter on it. Dip it in really good chili.

Where can you get real bread? They don't have bakeries anymore. What happened to bakeries? The supermarket is NOT a bakery. Some of us have NO idea how to bake break but we're still hungry. When England takes over again, I hope we have bakeries.

Do they have Panera in Boulder? They bake on site.

As for fresh bakeries, they don't exist anymore because Americans have gigantic refrigerators and pantries that can store huge amounts of food, making it more worthwhile to go to the supermarket once a week instead of going to local food providers--bakeries, fruit/veggie markets, butcher shops, etc.--every day. We have those gigantic refrigerators and pantries because 1) land is cheap here, 2) automobile travel is cheap and in many cases heavily subsidized (i.e., mandatory free parking requirements) and 3) our tax policies encourage people to put their money into residential real estate instead of saving it.

The only reason France still has all of its boulangeries is that the government subsidizes the bejeezus out of them for the sake of preserving a piece of cultural heritage.
