The pair of low end drivers in the Quads and V6s are identical so you're not giving anything up with the V6 - instead you gain another pair of drivers for more balanced mids. You're always able to tilt EQ toward the low end if that's what you want to emphasize at a gig. Since the 1964 IEMs are so expensive, it made sense to get a pair that would provide more versatility at different tasks than only for performances. With their more advanced technology, you can make V6s behave like chameleons and do anything you want with top drawer performance.

I got the quads and I'm deliriously happy with them, but I see your point about using the V6s for mixing. I find that I'm actually rolling off a fair amount of overall low end to the mix I'm getting with the Quads, but I'm perfectly happy with them under the circumstances. One of our worship leaders, playing a lot of acoustic, went with the V6s, based on the info I gave him about mine, and he's just as happy with his. He had Alien Ears molds, but they "went south on me", as he put it and went with the 1964s.

You're right - comparatively speaking, the Quads ARE a good deal. But it's still a lot of bucks flying out the door for one piece of musical gear so I prefer to leverage that purchase by getting a product that is versatile instead of a one-trick pony. With the V6s I get the bass-emphasized performance for a gig (by nudging EQ appropriately), and more balanced performance for mixing and general listening. This versatility cost an extra $100 or so but given the total price tag, is well worth the premium (to me). Other bassists may have different priorities.

Just ordered a set of quads and sent off my ear molds today. I've been telling the other folks in the band for 3 years that I was almost ready to get some custom IEM's. This thread helped me make the decision to take the plunge. Thanks for all of your input!

Dang, it was hard not pay for rush-ordering!:hyper:

I went with platinum face with black 1964 logo, black translucent back and red on the right ear canal. It's only been two days and I'm checking my email like a kid waiting on his secret decoder ring to come in the mail.

No doubt, it's a long wait. But I had dived into several project during the wait and while I hadn't forgotten about the 1964 order, they had gotten near the edge of the radar.

So imagine the cool surprise when I arrived at my girlfriend's house for dinner and she handed me a package that said 1964 on it (I get my packages sent to her house, her mother lives there and signs for my packages). Yippee! I pulled my small notebook (or really big iPod, depending on how you look at it) and immediately tore into the package to try them out.

I'm doing the same with a Sennheiser EW300 IEM system at the moment. Ordered it on the 5th of March, back-ordered until the 17th, I look for arrival on the 20th. Arrgghh....

The V6s provide an incredibly balanced sound stage with tons of bass...the same dual bass drivers as the Quads. Hard to imagine the benefit of four bass drivers in each ear. Couldn't you just tweak the EQ if you want to juice the bass? Seems like a way to squeeze more dough out of people. Their marketing collateral does a lousy job of selling me on the value of V8s.

Agreed, seems like overkill in some ways. Furthermore it makes me wonder what the quads can't do that the V8's can. Was initially excited as I've heard nothing but good things about 1964 and I like new product launches in general, lol, but this might be a reach.

Perhaps since they've gained a solid foothold in the market they want to separate a little bit from the "budget" niche that helped them gain popularity.

Curious to see if anyone reviews these.
