Spector all the way, they look nicer, sound ncier, and if you get one with humbuckers, it should have the thunderbird's powerful sound too.

OK. This will be my first bass and will be playing a lot of metal. So finally, i have narrowed to doen to 2 decisions:

Spector SSD Performer 4 string

Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird 4 string

The thunderbird looks cool for rock. If you're still considering it after all the thumbs up for the spector, make sure you try it out on a strap before buying it.

Only then will you get a feel for how awkward it is...
