My first bass. String info needed.

Hi guys, got a bass on the way, played good guitar for over 15 years and can fake bass real good, and decided if I got the talent then why not use it.

Anyways, I read things here and their about the stock strings on basses being the first thing people yank. Ive got my own special ear for tone as everyone else, but Im sure their is a certain sound most people do not want with a new bass, do I just wait to see what its like, or can you recommend an upgrade for playing mostly rock and metal,,,,,,,Im a huge jazz, funk and blues fan as well but this will be used more lots of fast picking more often.

Its a LTD ESP B55 5 string in case you know what strings are on it. If I should just leave them for a bit then fine.

If you can tell me what to keep an ear out for to recognize crap strings then cool, if not no worries, Im still going to go through all the sticky info on the other string stuff.

Take care guys.

That style of playing would say round wounds to me. Or if you want a little less brightness GHS Pressure Wounds like I use will sound good picked as well as played finger style. DR has a nice line of rounds as well.

Send off a email to Jason at BassStringsOnline.com and give him an idea of what your looking for tonally and tensionwise. He'll help you narrow it down to a few that will work well. You can buy from him as a TB member at a very nice discount and get new strings within a matter of a few days.

Many of the members are doing business with him and are very pleased with his knowledge and the service. Good Luck.

Some months back I purchased a ESP LTD 6 string bass. It shipped with SIT Strings on it. There was a note on the bass saying they were SIT strings.
So you can assume the ESP you are getting should have SIT Strings on it.

They weren’t great and weren’t terrible. But in my honest opinion, the type/brand of strings on basses effects the sound much more then on guitars.

I 2nd what soulman969 said. Send an email to Jason at Bassstringsonline... his name on talkbass is SLaPiNFuNK
and let him know what tone and tension you are looking for.
You can also mention it here many of us can help point you in the right direction too.

But when you do buy your strings I strongly recommend getting them from Bassstringsonline, great prices and customer service.

I'm pretty sure the esp ltd f154dx bass I got awhile back came with the diff colored ball ends that indicate daddario bass strings. Not certain but I think so. they came off pretty quick and my reg pref strings got put on within a day or two of its arrival. Lol.

lol you jumped right on in then. Yeah I was thinking of doing the same thing just so the first strings I burn in and get my fingers used to might be ones I like to play down the road, why get used to crap ones. Thanks bud for the reply.
