Thanks Herbie. I suppose I sounded somewhat apologetic about it's appearance. Please don't get me wrong. I am both very lucky and very proud. If I gave the impression of anything else, it was certainly without intent.

Hey Bob, a young bluegrasser in Cookville, TN bought that Kay from me a while back. I saw a clip of him playing that bass not long ago.

That's a real beauty. I love the little bit of asymmetry and the positioning of the ff's. Compare [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] to the Link Removed on Kolstein's site. Very similar to my eye!

Thanks for the report Thomas ..... Not to diminish your new sweet-old carved bass ..... Not that what I am about to type makes any-sense and/or that anyone cares .....

But maybe your "new" carved came from a past N-Ville era that matters in "country" music. Talk to Kent Blanton sometime. You should figure-out the history of who around N-Ville might have played that bass. Good Stuff to know ... Maybe Not.

We played with our local bluegrass band for a benefit out in a small MT town for St. Paddy Day. Two weeks later ... A rancher that heard me play bass for that benefit show came up and complimented me and told me stories about how his Grandpa ... Sid Morton ... Played upright for Hank Williams The First on some original Opry Shows.

I was Impressed (not with the bass-playing compliments) but with Knowing Someone related to playing bass for The Opry before The Opry almost died and then Folks saved It To Ressurrect "The Ryman" .

In fairness to the seller, I won't mention his name publicly, but I can say that one great part of this buying experience was getting to spend time with this guy, watching him play, and talking to him about people he's worked with. He could not have been more accomodating.

I'm not sure if this bass has been used to record or not, but I'd say it's highly likely. I will have to revisit with the seller about this.

I am pretty-sure you have bought a fine-old-bass from a Fine - N'Villagee Crook (that's french) for "tennessee business as usual" . Jest Kidding .... ! (Is he available for lessons and does he travel long distances to freeze his arse-off ?)
